Question Vacation/Dining Out

Hello everyone,

I'm going to NYC for vacation in a couple of weeks and am concerned with food choices while there. Breakfast will be fine and is included where we are staying. I do not have the ability to spend a lot of money at every meal and I cannot stand eating salad everyday. Do you have any OP ideas for me? I know Jorge Cruise's book has a few ideas but I could use some more. We want to try Indian food. Do you know what would be a good choice there? Is there anything we could carry with us for snack/meals? We will have a cooler at the motel but no fridge or coffee maker. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Indian can be high-calorie because of all the yogurt used in so many of the recipes. I've never done WW so I don't know about OP Indian choices, but whenever I get Indian (which I LOVE) I usually get the Chana Masala. Chickpeas in a tomato-based sauce with vegetables, basically, and it's a pretty low-cal choice as far as Indian goes. Plus, it's delicious. Good luck and have a wonderful trip : )

There is a new little book by Cruise in the bookstore all about dining out. You could read the whole thing easily while having a cup of coffee.

My dh and I split protein bars when out like that or the 100 cal. snack packs are easy to take along.....string cheese is good for protein if you have a cooler.

Sounds like a great trip.

Since you'll have the cooler perhaps puchasing some fresh fruit, it is a great time of year for it. Peaches pears nectarines grapes apples cherries. flavored bags of rice cakes. meals try to eat only half of your meal and save the rest if you can or perhaps share a plate. Just remember to keep the cruise plate in mind while making choices and portion sizes to a minimum. Hope this helps a little bit. Have a wonderful time.

In NYC, you can get any kind of food you want any time of the day or night. Lots of VERY nice restaurants have reasonable lunch menu prices - dinner menu prices can get high. However, lots of fruit stands, wonderful delis, and GREAT hot dog vendors - be sure to get the cooked onions on your dogs.

Thanks for your help everyone! I'll definetely have to go to Barnes and Noble and read that new book before we go. I'm always looking for an excuse to hang out there anyway. I'll also keep the snack tips in mind when I do my pretrip shopping.
