20 lb. challenge

  • Who would like to lead this challenge???

If we start this past Sun. we would have 13 wks. or next Sun. 12 wks. until Sept. 17.

So what do we all think? I think it is doable and we need to post in the challenge thread as much as possible to keep us movitated....even daily.

So who is up to running this challenge with the prize being the loss of 20 lbs. or more!!!! I am trying to post as much as possible to keep this site up and running right now so it would be nice if someone else would run the challenge.

  • I'll give it a try. But I'll probably need some help as I've not run a challenge before. So let's start it this Sunday the 25th, that way I'll have some time to think of things we can do.
  • Thanks Cathy.....

You can make the challenge anything you want. Some of the challenges before have given points.....

You can let each person set their own daily goals and get lets say 1 pt./wk for meeting them. And 1 point for posting so many times each week, eating every 3 hrs., etc.

Or you can set the rules......1 pt. a day for each day you are drinking at least 8 oz. water, 1 pt. each time you exercise for 30 min. or equivelent.....

However you want to do it....I did one that was just WI each week and you had to post in the challenge thread at least once a week seperate from your reg. posts.....and if you did that and lost the most lbs., you won.

So decide how you want to do it and we are ready......just post the rules and dates....whatever you decide I think we are all ready.

  • Cathy .... Fonty has posted some good ideas for a challenge in the daily posting. Why don't you get together with her and maybe you two could run this challenge together or one of you do this one and one start planning the next one as we need to continue the challenges after a couple weeks rest.

Read her thoughts and then PM her on running it together.....12 wks. is a long time so two of you motivating us would be great for everyone to keep it going.

  • I am definitely in for a challenge!
Can I make a suggestion though?? I say we keep it fairly simple. The last time I participated in a challenge, I think it was Phyllis'. But something like a point for every pound lost, lose a point for every pound gained. A point for meeting weekly goal, a point for posting 2 or 3 times a week. I think with summer here, we need to keep it fairly simple. But we do need to keep up with our postings so we don't "lose" our group!!

    Just my two cents......

  • I would like to join in the challenge but my goal is to lose about 11-12 pounds. I assume that is ok?

Also, I am worried because I will be going on vacation the week of July 4th. I will have access to a computer to check in but I know there will be MANY temptations. I am doubting my ability to keep on track during this time....
  • It will be hard over the 4th....we are not going anywhere but already have a couple cook outs to go to and an anniversary party all in the same week!!!

We will have to do the best we can and drink LOTS OF WATER!!!!

  • All one can do is their honest best!
  • Yep all we can do is our best. If you can substitute something, do it. Like eating fruit instead of cake or what have you. I'll be in Texas then and it's my parents 50th Anniversary. Plus I'll be hanging with my best bud and we do like to go to Margaritaville. But I'm going to do my very best to stay focused, food wise and exercise wise. WE CAN DO THIS LADIES!!!
  • You can also add more exercise to burn more calories! Bottom line, you gotta burn more than you take in....

Anita - maybe you can rent bikes or go for a walk/jog on the beach? Don't know where you are vacationing, but with kids, I imagine it won't be too hard to incorporate exercise.

Phyllis - yup! step up that water intake!!!

Cat - remember hard liquor with low cal mixers is your best choice as far as a bar goes. Yup! I happen to have read up on that subject.....

Now I just gotta make sure I follow all this good advice!!

  • Cat talked me into joining the challenge.

We are going to a pro baseball game on the 4th. I plan to eat a light breakfast and lunch and save calories to have a hot dog and either ice cream or cotton candy if I choose -- but not both.

I get to save a couple hundred calories when I eat a hot dog since I can't have the bun.
  • OK...I am getting serious now about the challenge. I entered everything into my calendar. It is probably for the better that we are doing this over the 4th because there will be much more incentive to stay on track!!! I am in!
  • i'm gonna do the challenge also--as much as i can--but i thought it had already started hahaha
    keep me updated
