Hi Laurie and good morning to all,
Glad to know that you are feeling somewhat better. Do hope the rest is feeling better soon. I was doing good up until the chinese buffet for dinner last night. I had it all planned out to go to a restaurant that serves a meal because I know that I get dangerous at the buffet restaurant. Well we know how that turned out. I'll be drinking water like crazy today to flush that msg out. Exercise has been going good. Hoping for great results on Monday and like you say, TGIF.

I was doing really well this week despite two long days at the hospital , up until AFTER I logged off last pm, went upstairs (office is in the basement) the house was quiet........I was exhausted ...Already had my dinner (lean cuisine and a salad)...had my glass of wine...started to clean up the dishes from DH and the kids...(they had pizza since i worked 7-7:30 yesterday and did not get home till 8ish) and all of a sudden....a demon possed me and I ate............................................... .................A HUGE.......................PIECE of COLD PIZZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UGHHHHHHHHH!
I am so mad at myself!
Well, today is a new day...so I will pick myself up and try to have a great day and weekend....thanks for hearing my confession!

Another busy weekend here - breakfast with girlfriends tomorrow morning, Visit from long time friend and her daughter on Sunday - lunch and bowling... in between I have a bit of cleaning to do and helping ds on a little project for school...

Also - since the snack ****s have apparently invaded ds' school - I have no idea what to do for valentine's day - we are not allowed to send in candy... I want to find something that they will actually enjoy and not some cheesy pencils and erasers...

So - have a great day all - I shall poke my head in when I can... work is exceptionally busy for this time of year and I am not one bit happy about it...

Cool

Well we are eating dinner out twice this week-end and a play....so I will try to be very good! It is hard eating out and I think before the play they are wanting to go to this pizza place but it is a very nice resturant and they have other things to choose. I'll find out won't I

I have mild diverticulitis and yesterday and today my stomach is hurting so I will have to eat very carefully and drink tons of water (pizza would kill me). And of course this means no exercise today , I swear the Diet Gods are out to get me

I may even have to pass on dinner out tonight if this doesn't ease up. Any suggestions from you nurses out there.....I'm listening.

Have a great week-end, Phyllis

Phyllis,
Up the water. Up the fiber. NOOOOOOO SEEDS (including tomato, cuccumbers, strawberries, popcorn, corn etc). If it persists or you spike a temp...call your GI. Can also try oral flagyl/cipro. I hope you feel better. My MIL and BIL both have diverticulosis. MIL had a really really bad attack last year and had a resection with colostomy (that was reversed in March) BIL is going to have elective resection in May after tax season while he is healthy to avoid my MIL's complication (he has had 3 attacks in 5 years)...so I know the disease all too well...If you watch your diet, drinks lots of water you should be fine. Some Docs say diet does not trigger but I differ. You can also try a stool softner (generic colace/docusate sodium) and although this is not recommended anywhere...try yogurt and/or accidophlus supplement to help keep GI bacteria in check. Good Luck! Eat Well!

Thanks Allie, I feel a lot better right now so hopefully this is over.....my GI says foods don't affect it either.....but I am still carefull....have a list of things I rarely eat. I have a call into him now for something to help if it starts up again today or for future bouts.

I can't think of anything I have eaten to cause this, I am wondering if stress can??? My dh being in the hospital and all.....can't figure it out. But then again I guess it could just build up over time.

Thanks again, Phyllis

You have no idea how glad I am that it's Friday!!!!

I'm doing pretty good today. I've actually had 56 oz of water so far and it's only 11:00 a.m.

We are getting a 60" big screen TV this weekend. My company does really nice end of year bonuses, so we're splurging this year. We are buying the TV, a nice oak stand for it, a high definition DVR and satellite dish, a high def DVD player and putting the entertainment center and old TV downstairs.

Then with what's left over, I want a 20 gallon fish tank for kitty TV and then I'm going clothes shopping. I'm not going to buy anything nice and expensive for now since I have no intention of being in this size next winter, but everything is too big now and I need stuff to get me through the rest of this winter.

I gained the 4 lbs with the potato chips on Monday, but it's gone now. Don't know if I will get any more off this week or not. I still have today and then 3 more days before weigh-in. No more potato chips - especially since now I know they can kill me!

Phyllis, I would think stress would be a major factor with your disease. Stress affects our bodies in some very weird ways.

Daisy, what's your budget per person for the kids?

Laurie, I'm glad you are feeling better. Your son will be the worst - men are always such babies when they are sick.

Allie, one piece of pizza will not do it to you. And Vicki, neither will 6 pieces of chocolate. As long as it's a one time aberation and not a habit, you can indulge once in a while.

Bren, what gets you on the Chinese buffets? We have one here in Denver and I always start with the crab legs. By the time I finish with a huge plate of crab legs, my DH is finished and ready to go and I haven't had a chance to eat much else. I love crab legs, but you burn calories trying to eat them!

Have a great day ladies!

Susan I don't know that I have a budget... there are 16 kids - 8 girls and 8 boys... what are the chances, right? I guess my budget would be about $35 or so? I found little things in the oriental trading catalogue - maybe I will go that route.

I would like for the doctors who claim that diet has nothing to do with diverticulits to explain to me why it is COMMON in industrialized countries with low fiber highly processed diets and rare in Asia and Africa where people eat high fiber fruit and vegetable diets?! And why is it that the disease was diagnosed concurrently with the introduction of refined low-fiber flour (in the early 1900's) What is that - some kind of coincidence? I guess controlling your diet does diddly squat for the pharmeceutical companies so it benefits them to try to say you can not control it with what you choose to put in your mouth.

But I digress - Phyllis - I sure hope you feel better soon. GI problems can really be excrutiating...

Oh, and this was posted on the JC website I also post at. I liked it:

"Fully welcome this day with open arms, with a grateful heart, and you will find it to be a good and productive day. Welcome the challenges as being a necessary part of life, and they will strengthen rather than stop you.

Welcome the opinions and perspectives of others, especially when they differ from yours. For by so doing you'll enable your own perspective to grow more valuable.

Accept what is, and you will increase your ability to do, create or have whatever you wish. Live as though there is the possibility for good in every circumstance, and you'll discover that it is there indeed.

Relish the cold, dark days just as enthusiastically as the bright, warm ones. Seek to extract just as much positive value from the defeats and mistakes as from the victories and successes.

The majesty of the sunrise would not occur without the darkness of the night. Effort would be impossible without rest, and likewise rest without effort.

Seeking only a select portion of life serves to diminish it all. Embrace the world in all its fullness and delight in the experience of being thoroughly alive."

What gets me on the buffet is crabmeat with onions and covered in cheese. Then a little taste of everything else. You are right about the crab legs, you do burn calories trying to get that meat out. If I can't stay away from there, I will definitely have to start with the crab legs and perhaps tire myself out trying to get that little meat out of them. Thanks

I have come to the conclusion that there is no help with me and buffets so its best if I just stay away from them!

Funny - buffets are good for me. Seeing all that food that I can eat (and don't have to fix for myself) helps me. Also, I love shrimp & most buffets have shrimp. I begin my meal with as much shrimp as I want. Then I have a salad. Then, if I'm still able, I have fish or chicken with vegetables (however, usually the veggies - other than salad - are crummy at buffets). Finally, I have fruit for dessert.
