Good Morning Everyone,

I am going to a brunch today with 2 people I used to work with. I'm going to spend some time in my closet seeing what I can fit into. I'm hoping I've lost enough to fit into something nice.

At the brunch, I'm going to try to focus on veggies and protein.

Hope we all have a good day,

Lynn

Good morning, well I am feeling some what better. I dont feel all beat like a dead horse but I still have a bad cough and lots of congestion.

Probably just still hanging around the house, my son got into some big trouble yesterday so needless to say we won't be doing much at all. I am still steaming. I just dont 'know what I am going to do.

I was suprised to get on the scale today and see a 3lb loss but I guess with me being sick the last 3 days, I haven't eaten alot plus I didnt' eat out only but once and that was a take out chicken salad.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Congrats Laurie on the your 3lb loss. I am glad you are starting to feel better. Have a cold can definitely suck, especially when you are changing your ways of eating.

Laurie,

About Steven - remember, they do grow up. When my daughter was 15-18, she was the devil-child from the exocist. Now, she is a wonderful, beautiful, responsible woman. Try to hang in there.

Love you,

Mother Lynn

Oh mother Lynn I so thought of you yesterday and wished you lived closer! I just dont' know if I am up for this parenting a teen! Like I really have a choice, now do I?? LOL! What do you do when they totally lose the trust that you put in them. I just dont' know what else I can do. And the first time I really loosen the reign on him, he blows it.

Lynn is right Laurie they all seem to end up being great adults.......if we let them live that long!!! lol

When you are calm and he is calmed down try to sit at your kitchen table (eye to eye level - don't be looking down at him) and discuss whatever happened and why it happened. Try not to explode and lecture....just talk, hopefully he will open up....give him a coke or something be relaxed.

That worked with both my sons but I had to cool down first....he is starting the ages that are very hard for boys, try to listen he still needs you he just doesn't know it.

Hang in there, Phyllis

But I have tried to talk to him and he just sits there and doesn't really respond, if he does he will say "I don't know" or he will put the blame on someone else. He will find an *excuse* for everything wrong he does!

I have read that boys also talk easier when they are doing something else... That making him "look you in the eye" makes it harder for him to open up to you. Maybe let him work on a hobby or something while he talks with you...

Hang in there Laurie. Just back it up a step and tighten up on the reigns again until he is ready. DOn't beat yourself up - you won't really know if he is ready until you try. He obviously wasn't- pull him back in and try again later... maybe after he can show you he is responsible or something - depends on the kid what that means exactly. Bottom line: they are kids. They will screw up - just back him up a step... Hang tight...

I have yardwork to do today with dh - woo hoo. Have a super day Ladies!

I am going to church with the kiddos today. I am glad. It is nice to dress up a bit and get out of the house and of coarse learning is always the nicest part.

Laurie you make me scared of my son hitting that age. In a couple years I will be emailing you for advice and support. Right now I don't know what to say. I have never had a teen yet.

I didn't mean "look him in the eye" just be at eye level, not standing over him looking down at him.....it puts them on the defense right off the bat. Give him some cookies, chips whatever and just sit down with him don't be hovering above him (or him above you if he's tall).......I had that problem with my oldest son, he is 6'4....it was better we sat down! lol

I'm cranky today

I just generally don't feel well and I think I'm coming down with a cold. So I sent John off to the Broncos football party and I have on my Snoopy & Woodstock flannel jammies and I'm going to curl up on the couch with a large glass of water and read the paper, take a nap and just rest.

Plus I have a new People magazine so I can read all the silly gossip and veg out.

My 2 kitties already are curled up asleep -- one is in a pile of clean laundry that hasn't been put away and the other one is in bed. They are so spoiled -- we turn on the electric blankets just for them during the day.

Cats are much easier than teenagers. You can lock the cat in a room by itself with food, water and the litter box when it misbehaves.

John's mother died when he was 20 and his father remarried. John's kid sister turns 14 today -- watch out! She's very, very smart and pretty cute and she's going to turn heads if she isn't already. Of course, she's tall and wears a size extra-small -- I think she's a 0. And she eats candy and junk food -- she just burns a lot of calories as a swimmer.

I don't envy any of you having to deal with teenage boys. My nephew is almost 11 and my brother is going to have his hands full in a few years. Of course, my niece will be much worse. At 8, she already has a major attitude.
