Default Questions

Good Morning Everyone!

I'm new to this website and was wondering if I could get some help....after reading through alot of your posts I decided to do the 3-Hour Diet....I went out and bought the book a few days ago but haven't read through the whole thing yet. I cheated a little and went right to Chapter 12, I wanted to start right away .

Now, I know I didn't have my fruit this morning, as I was running out to catch my train and forgot to grab it, but I did have 3 slices of Turkey bacon on a slice of whole grain toast....I'm not sure how to count this....would 3 slices of Turkey bacon be enough protein? I know I can have 3 1oz proteins or 3oz of one protein, but in this case I'm not sure if Turkey bacon is counted the same way. I believe each slice had 15g of protein but I'm not sure if
1 slice equaled 1oz...maybe I should have weighed it? And would I also it as my fat? Each slice had 3 grams of fat. I know once I read through the whole book that things will become more clear, but right now I'm still a little confused about some things. Another confusion is, is 1 whole egg counted as 1 protein?

Thanks for all your help...you all seem like a great group and I look forward to coming here and getting/giving support!

Cappy -- I would weigh the turkey bacon. I usually have 3 pieces and count that as my protein. But, I usually have eggs with it too so there is even more protein. I am out of town right now so I can't look it up but hopefully Laurie or Dani can shed some more light on this...

Fran~ I think 3 slices would be 1 serving because you want to shoot for 225 grams of protein for each meal. 1 egg is also 1 serving so 3 eggs would be your protein for a meal. Someone correct me if I'm wrong about the bacon Glad to have you with us hon!

AND YES - YOU CAN DO IT!

Phyllis is right. When you have a very fatty meat OR cheese you should count that as your fat. Example: Sour cream is counted as my fat. Ham I also consider my fat and have only half of my flax caplets. Its small decisions on your own you can make. When you KNOW something is fatty - try and stay away from it or have a small amount of it. It is not the best for you.

You should concentrate on lean meats. White meats. I will still eat red meats but on ocasion. I will no longer eat bacon either, except camping, and it is turkey bacon and I use TONS of paper towels to rid the grease.

BUT you need to accompadate this diet to the foods you like and know you will eat. Try to stock your freezer with lean meats and frozen veggies, these are your golden foods. Fill 1/2 your plate with veggies then the rest of the foods is harder to over fill because there is not as much room for them. Never EVER eat seconds! I ALWAYS dish up my veggies first. This helps me not eat too much of everything else.

Also calories is a big part for me. I look at calories and eat only the right amount of calories daily and it still fits into the 3 hour diet. The calorie counts are in the book. If you want them I can post them as well. In some instances I don't use calories for the protien because I would have to eat A LOT! Then I switch to the ounces because its less calories and I feel like I am doing better that way. Its all about accomadating it to your lifestyle.

But if possible stay away from bacon, sausage, white flours, lots of cheeses (they are very fatty ), white sauces, teas, coffees, or anything with lots of surgars. I still eat cheese because I can not rid that from ny diet. Its one of my favorite things to ate for protien. Especially the low fat cheeses.

When I eat those foods now I either get tummy aches or head aches ( except for cheese - that doesn't give me aches). My body is telling me they simply are not the best foods for me. Now everyone is diferent, so some of these foods other people must have, wiether medically or because they still can not function with out them or because they love them so much ( like me with the cheese- I just limit my cheese intake now and doing really well with it). Some of them can be very adddicting.

Dani:

Thank you for all the great advice! I've already started to incorporate heathier changes into my diet over the last 6 months....I only eat whole grain breads, I don't eat butter anymore only Smart Balance or Brummel and Brown Spread, I eat ALOT of tomatoes now, something I never did before....and I live on chicken, I eat it daily! These are just some of the changes I've made...my biggest problem is portion control and knowing when to stop...even though I've been eating better and making better choices, I was still eating TOO MUCH...this is why I thought the 3 Hour Diet would work for me, I think by eating something every 3 hours, I can control my hunger and not feel like I'm starving by my next meal!

I'm still reading through the book so eventually this will all become second nature to me. I'm going to my brother's today for Thanksgiving and I plan on filling my plate with half veggies and the rest with protein and a little carbs, just like you said. Again, thank you for all your great advice! I really appreciate it!

Happy Thanksgiving!
