Default Shingles!!!!

YEP that is what I have. After all the MRI's, hospital stay and all of that money spent this is what I have. SHINGLES

Shingles is the chicken pox virius that lays dormant in everyone that ever had it and mine decided to flair up....this is Shingles (not the pox) I have a rash on the left side of my head/scalp area that hurts like the it is very very painful as it is the nerve endings. Hopefully it will only last a couple of more weeks. In the meantime I am back full force on pain meds until the pain stops. So I'm again in LaLa land.

Now I told the ER doc about the rash and he dismissed it and I never thought to tell my reg. dr. two days later....so I suppose this is my fault I had to have all those tests and throw away our money!! Hey I told my dh he could make more!!!!

Nothing to do for it put take the pain meds and wait till it goes away on it's own. He is putting me on antibiotics just to be safe and I don't have to have the Phys. rehab now.

Well I guess the good news is this USUALLY only flares up once in a lifetime and I know from the MRI's that my head is fine some people would disagree with that one.

But I feel better having a name put on this and now not be afraid I will hurt my neck....that part is a relief.

I'll keep ya updated to this hopefully ending soon saga.....Phyllis

Phyliss:

I am so sorry for all this pain you've had to deal with. But at least the good news is that it wasn't your neck. Back problems can be a constant battle. At least w/ shingles you will get over it and be done w/ it (hopefully forever). Enjoy lala land while you can! Hoping for a speedy recovery for you.

Oh Phyllis - so sorry to hear about the Shingles !! I have learned that I can deal with what I know - so this is a temporary thing and you will be good as new. About that LaLa land - been there - kinda like it!!. The only thing is the next day when you have to think and your head is still somewhere in LaLa Land . Hope you feel better soon!!

Wow Phyllis - shingles! Hope the pain/rash goes away quickly. And I am glad it is not your neck, so that at least is good news. Take care of yourself and recover quickly.

Phyllis,
Oh boy...what a crappy thing to happen.Believe it or not I have had the shingles (mine were on the torso) so I kinda know what you are going through.I have heard that having them where you do is pretty yucky,so you have my deepest sympathies!I always called the pain the "shingle tingle" and I know that there is nothing else quite like it.I am concerned that DR has you on antibiotics, however since chicken pox and shingles is a virus?!?I am told that the virus can "wake" up due to extreme stress or exposure to the chicken pox virus.Mine were brought on by stress.I have also been told 2 different opinions on recurrences....my current DR says you can have future flare ups,the DR I saw when I was first treated told me they only come once, like the chicken pox.Hehehehe....here's the funny thing...I had the chicken pox as a child AND as an adult and I had my first shingle outbreak at 35(which is quite rare,it ususally doesn't occur until you are in 50's)and I have had a flare up as recently as last fall.Keep taking those pain meds and get as much rest as you can.I was nursing Madison when I had them the first time so I couldn't take anything, but then they got so much worse the DR said I had to quit nursing and start taking anti-viral meds and steroids or would end up in hospital.Madison was 11 months old at the time so at least theres that. You will be in my prayers!

Thanks everyone for the good wishes.

Becca wow being so young and having shingles.....I know exactly the tingling your talking about and I guess because it's on my head the headaches and neck pains.

My Dr. told me USUALLY once but can reappear again at least if it does I will know the symptoms. Yes, anti virial is what meds I'm on and he said if you can get on the meds in the first 3 days it will really shorten it and make it milder.

So make sure you call as soon as you feel an outbreak coming on, I am hoping both of us never have this again and what a strong woman you are to have had no pain meds, this is terrible.

Thanks again my friends....Phyllis
