Hi. My name is Jane and I'm overweight. I'm 5' 3" and I weigh 218 pounds as of this morning. I'm 62 years old and I've been overweight all my life. Even at birth I was almost 9 pounds. To make matters worse, I have a very thin mother (age 84), a very thin sister (age 65), and a thin brother ( age 59), then there's ME!! I quit smoking 7 years ago (after smoking for over 40 years) and you'd think if I could master that, I could master weight loss. NOT!! I'm ready to give this new forum a try. Why not; I've tried everything else, and I do mean everything. I need some encouragement and the confidence to know that I'm not too old to try again. I'm now in the process of reading the book "You on a Diet." I'm hoping to get some tips there but I still need the encouragement of people that are in my situation. I really want to be successful this time; whoops, I've used that line already, many times. So, what do you think? Can I do it?

Hi and welcome! There are a few threads with regard to that book. Have you found them?

Hi JV, of course you can do it! It takes a little will power but you've alread show that you have that! If you quit smoking you can do anything! The difference between quitting smoking and dieting is different, though. You can put down a cigarette and never pick it up again. You have to continue eating!!! It's hard to retrain your mind to eat differentally. It's like any other habit!! I will be 60 in a few weeks and I'm in the process of losing some weight, again. I would be happy to be your e-mail buddy, if you want one! I think it's much easier to diet if you have someone to talk too.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the encouragement and yes, I sure could use a buddy. I know it's not going to be easy and because I've been dieting my whole life, I'm hoping that this time it will be different. I'd love to get some of this weight off. I just want to be healthy. I'm so tired of being tired. I had a really good day yesterday so I guess it's one day at a time. Thanks again.
