Need A Friend

I am new to everything these days (or so it seems!). I am a stressed out stay at home mom. I am at the heaviest weight my body has ever known. I am exercising, so that's a definite plus. I just feel lonely. I am looking for support. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

CynthiaB 09-03-2005 10:30 AM

Lots of friends here

Hello, I'm pretty new here, too, but from what I've read so far you'll find lots of friends here in the forums. I've gotten lots of good tips and encouragement already.

I'm a (somewhat) new SAHM too. My baby just turned 1 year old. How old is yours? I squeeze in my exercise while he's napping. Lucky for me he still takes 2 longs naps per day. I do weight-training (Bowflex) during his morning nap and cardio (treadmill) during his afternoon nap. Then, after dinner, we go to the park together to walk. That whole schedule is fairly new for me (us) and so far I'm only down 14 pounds. But every pound is a success!

Are you on a particular diet? I'm not. I've changed my eating habits and now make healthier eating choices. Any change is better than what I was eating (lots of sweets and fried food and fast food). Eventually I may need to refine my menu a little more, but for now I'm doing okay.

Good luck and check in often. Just perusing the forums seems to help me a lot, hope it helps you too.

Cindy

Hi Ladies! I too am relatively new here and a SAHM and lonely looking for support! Cynthia great job on those 14 pounds gone forever!! Awesome!!

Great job both of you exercising! I am lucky if I can get a walk in these days, but I do try. I am in this for the long haul and would love to "buddy up" with both of you if you are interested!

Have a great holiday weekend!

carafre,

Welcome to the boards! I felt EXACTLY the way you do, roughly a week or so ago too! Then I started posting on these boards, everyone helped me, and now I am getting normal again! I have not felt better in a long time!!

Feel free to check me out: http://www.freewebs.com/tracym04/ that is my own personal web site. :)

carafre 09-03-2005 08:36 PM

Thank - you !!!!!!

I am so excited! I know this sounds lame, but I didn't realize that I wasn't alone. I am so thankful for all of your responses! I have a daughter who will be three in Nov. and my son just turned one!! I am not on a diet. I do try to watch what I eat. I am still nursing my son.

I have dropped a couple of pounds this week. I am fighting my anxiety so that I can get out and exercise with my kids. They love the park. I am learning to also. I don't like to be "in public". But it's not so bad now. I can focus on my kids having fun. I hope I can keep this new attitude. It seems possible!
Glad to be here! Thanks so much!

brown_foxy21 09-03-2005 09:00 PM

Hey. I feel you. I'm at the heaviest I've ever been too. I just got back into a little rountine too. I started walking, now I have went out and bought Carmen Electra's strip aerobics. Very Fun!! It does a get a little discouraging, but hang in there. It gets easier as the days go on.

dyintobethin 09-03-2005 09:37 PM

RLK2005 09-04-2005 12:01 AM

Hi ladies. I have been checking out different groups. I am a SAHM, as well. I have twins that will be 2 in November. I have 60 lbs to lose and I also feel like I am in this battle alone. I am gathering up support because I really want to change. I am doing Weight Watchers. Hope we can all help each other.

Wow!!! You sound SO MUCH like me!!! I was the same way! I don't know what it is, but it seems this is common. You sounds like an exact replica of me just a couple of weeks ago! And I had been like that for years! I am not totally out of it... but I am much better. I go out... and do things. My husband used to say to me "all you do is stay home in your little bubble"! That really made me mad because I did not feel that way. But he was kind of right!

It is awesome seeing ourselves change for the better and grow! That freedom we get while we change is one of the keys that helps us lose the weight I think. It is a big stress off of our chests too! :)

Feel free to PM me if you want... we can chat anytime. :)

sunkiss 09-04-2005 11:48 AM

Hello everyone! I'm also a SAHM (but part time if you will). I have a part time job only 4 hours in the evenings for 4 days a week. Not bad, gets me out and I call it ME time seeing i never get ANY! I'm also looking to buddy up with a few friends. Like Carafre and a few others, I have just started and been on my diet for 1 (one) week. I need support seeing i dont get any in the household. I'm ready!!! I'm ready to change my life and for once i'm putting my foot down and doing something about it and I need help and a friend or two.

Now this is where YOU GUYS come in, as I will do my best to help, support and be a friend to you. Over the years I have let myself go. I was fit, lean and mean right up to graduation. I started having breathing problems and found out i have asthma. After years of steroids and not running because i couldnt get enough air into my lungs i became who i am today. Im now at the biggest i have ever been. Last weighing in at 229 lbs. I have a lifetime membership that as soon as my daughter heads back to school i WILL USE IT! Thank god she starts soon, I just keep thinking 1 1/2 weeks! My husband doesnt support me like i wish he would. Hes a wonderful man and tells me he loves me the way I am but I don't love myself like this. I want to grow old with my husband and daughter. I'm affraid if I keep going the way I am, I will have some problems seeing Diabeties runs bad in my family and wieght gain can trigger that. Plus the asthma doesnt do me any good. Hope I find everything i need here... from the looks of it everyone is wonderful and cant wait to get to know some of you. God bless everyone and now i know............ IM NOT ALONE! THANKS *HUGS*

Sunkiss,

I am going to PM you. :)

carafre 09-04-2005 12:50 PM

Here we go!

I now have a goal! I weighed 215 when I started actually weighing myself a couple of weeks ago. I weighed yesterday and I was down to 206. I realized that I never even gave myself credit for doing that! Nine pounds is amazing (even if I can't see it in the mirror!). My final goal is to lose 60 lbs.. But I will start with 6 to lose by middle/end of Oct.. I wish you all the best and would love to keep up with all of you. I will give the Carmen Electra video a try. My sister loves it ( but she is a size 8.). It sounds like fun. Even if it makes me laugh it'll be worth it!!!
Hope to hear your thoughts and stories soon!
It's really happeneing! Let's all hang in there one pound at at time.

CynthiaB 09-04-2005 05:51 PM

Good for you Carafre! Wow, 9 pounds is a lot, you've really got a great start. Keep that momentum going and remember how good it felt to step on that scale and see a big difference (down instead of up for a change!).

I've started at roughly the same weight as you (216). I would love to keep in touch and do this together. PJ ("SicknTired") said she would start a new thread for SAHMs, if you see the thread let me know where it is (I'm having a hard time finding threads in here). I weigh on Saturdays, too, so we could check in at our weigh-ins and keep up with each other's progress.

Keep it up everyone! We SAHMmies need to stick together!

Cindy

RLK2005 09-04-2005 08:46 PM

It's great to see so many SAHMs here. I am possibly doing worse on these weekends than I do during the week when it's just me and the kids. I hope I have lost this week but I have to remember I did not all that was required. I did make some baby steps, though. I hope everyone does succeed and keep up with this support. We all need it.

Rikki

carafre 09-05-2005 05:58 PM

Saturday is a great day!

That sounds great, Cindy! It really would be helpful to have a day that we can check in on! I will be here with bells on! Congrats to you on your weight loss too!

karmasdogma 09-05-2005 08:26 PM

I'd love to join the SAHMs get skinny

Hi all - I'm new here too. Just joined yesterday. I have one son in 5th grade. I homeschooled him last year and this year he is back at the local public school. I finally have some time to devote to myself and I am wanting badly to kick start my weight loss. I would love to give and get support and encouragement from other moms trying to lose weight. This is such a great forum. I really need it. Lara

TMunday 09-05-2005 08:50 PM

Lara,

Welcome! I homeschooled my kids (3 kids but only homeschooled 2 of them) for years! I think I did it for at 4 years plus. Well, it was 4 years because we sent our son (oldest child) and daughters to public school when my son started 4th grade. Homeschooling is hard work! I am enjoying the "ME TIME" I do have to admit. :)

Anyway, welcome... and enjoy your "me time". I wish you much success! :)

CynthiaB 09-05-2005 09:34 PM

Welcome, Lara! Congrats on your weight loss so far! You and I have a similar goal (mine is 136). My son is a year old, but we decided even before he was born to home educate him. I know it's a few years away yet, but I'm already researching and getting excited about it. Although, as you know, we "homeschool" our children from the day we bring them home from the hospital!

Good luck on your weight loss, hope we can all help you reach your goal.

CynthiaB 09-05-2005 09:40 PM

Checking in and misc.

I did great exercising today. Legs and abs on the Bowflex and 60 minutes on the treadmill. That's a lot on the treadmill for me, though. TNT had a Law and Order marathon on today, and I watched a whole episode while walking before I realized it. But I needed it, since I had a bad dinner (Hamburger Helper, can you believe it? Yuck!). So I guess it balanced out.

Since we're all SAHMs, should we think of a fun name for our little "group"? :D Also, can we stay on this Buddy thread or do we have to move to another forum?

mysweetieshoney 09-05-2005 10:38 PM

Hi there. I was a SAHM, but recently went to work and school, so now I'm a NAHM..lol. I was on WW for a while, and kind of stumbled, but now I need to be back on it. I can't go to the meetings, so I'm hoping to find the support and encouragement I need here. I was at my highest in March (275lbs.) and am now at 250. It was very slow going. DH and I are also trying to get pregnant, so I thought the weight issue might be affecting it. I have 2 kids from my previous marriage.
Well, I hope to really chat with you all soon, good luck to everyone tomorrow, because we truly have to do this a little at a time. Have a wonderful evening, and I'll check in soon.

carafre 09-06-2005 10:17 PM

Anyone have a name?

I think a name would be wonderful for our group. I am racking my brain. I think it should be one that will make us smile when we think of it! I hope all is well with my new buddies! I have walked no less than 2 miles everyday! I even did four yesterday! I am waiting to weigh until Sat.. I feel kind of down. I saw some pictures of myself from my sons' B-day party - Yuck. It's so hard to believe I look like that now. It's ok, it's ok. I have a goal (repeat three times and back away from the chips!) Nine down and six more until my Oct. goal. take care!
carafre

RLK2005 09-06-2005 11:37 PM

Hello everyone. I went to my WW meeting tonight and I was down 1.2 lbs. Yeah!! I can do this, right?!?

Carafre...I have been there--seeing pics that have just left me feeling so down. That is just motivation to change, right? You are doing great so keep it up!!

Have a great day everyone...Rikki

CynthiaB 09-07-2005 09:33 AM

Good Morning everyone!

Carafre: Wow, you're walking a lot. Good for you! Do you walk outside or on a treadmill? Don't get discouraged about the pictures. Just think, you'll have some great "before" pictures that will go well with your "after" pictures someday soon! But I know what you mean. I don't usually feel too overweight until I see pictures or look in the mirror. In fact, I rarely look in the mirror at all because it is rather discouraging.

RLK: Congrats on the loss! A great start. Down is so much better than up, isn't it? Keep up the good work.

As for me, I've been doing well this week. I'm actually looking forward to Saturday's weigh-in, for a change. Usually I dread it. I think taking one day at a time makes things easier, and keeps me more motivated.

Take care! Cindy

carafre 09-07-2005 12:24 PM

Happy!

RLK - Good for you! You are losing and that is wonderful! You can do it! Just keep up the good work. If you need anything - we are here. I've only been here a week or so and I already feel like a "we" instead of just a me!

Cindy - I am walking outside. I put the kids in the stoller and go! It's not always easy, but I corner my husband and let him watch the kids when I feel like really walking alot. I can do two miles w/the kids but that's their limit. It's hard to find time to exercise. I don't know anyone here except my hubby. He works nights so it's tough. But I basically hand him the kids and bolt out of the door. Otherwise, I don't get that me time. Everyone else has time to do what they want and need. Now it's my turn. Enough venting - It's a good day! How are you exercising? You have a treadmill right? How do you like it? We have a Bowflex too. I plan to conquer that next! Keep going strong!
take care

Can I join in too??
I'm a SAHM of 3 beautiful kiddos!! Looking to loose at least 20 lbs :) I started my weight loss journey about 1.5 years ago at 195... I've been up and down since then, through 2 more pregnancies (both miscarriages) and am now at 170... I want to loose more quickly, but I need someone to help me stay on track!!

Today eating is not so good. I had a small bowl of ice cream w/ sundae toppings :( But exercising went great... jogged 1.25 miles and walked 2 miles... plus did 1/2 hr pilates!

RLK2005 09-07-2005 02:55 PM

Hello everyone. I hope you all are having a good day. I think I am on a "weight loss high" from yesterday because I feel really motivated and have done great so far. I hope I can keep it up. It is so nice to go down instead of up as I was doing every week!!

Welcome Becca!

Later...Rikki

SicknTired 09-07-2005 11:13 PM

SAHMers

Hi Ladies!! I am so sorry that I dropped the ball so to speak and never started that new thread!!! As you all know how it can be with little ones at home!!! LOL Anyway I am glad to see our little group is growing!! I need as much help as I can get! I am down almost 10 pounds in not quite 2 weeks. I have A LOT mor eto go, but I am happy with my progress thus far. I am looking at it as a life style change that I can live with the rest of my life.

Oh you ladies and your homeschooling! I admire you! My one question for that is about socialization with peers for your children?? I haev often wondered how that works. I don't know if I can hack doing it though. Sounds stupid since I was a teacher before I had my first child. One of my boys may require special education and I may look into homeschooling for him. I am sop stressed out over my little boy now adays anyway. I know you can all relate to that!

PJ
OK so shoudl i start a new thread? DId we thinkl of a name for us hip happening SAHMs? OH feel free to IM me on AOL or AIM at Pidge97!

Talk to you all soon! Have a great night!!

CynthiaB 09-08-2005 09:29 AM

Good morning, all! Trying to get caught up on things here at home this morning. My little guy goes to the doctor today for his one-year-old shots and bloodwork. He actually went a couple weeks ago but had a fever so the doctor wanted to reschedule (I think the fever was due to teething). Wish me (and him) luck!

Carafre: Yes, I use a treadmill. I recently hauled it into the house from the garage because I'm more motivated when it's in front of the tv. My secret for using it is that it gives me an excuse for watching trash tv and not feel guilty... I have to confess, I like watching Judge Judy, and so I park myself on the treadmill when my little one takes his afternoon nap and watch two episodes in a row. Hey, at least it's better than Jerry Springer (but not much, my husband would say!).

Becca: Welcome! Ooh, that ice cream sundae sounded good... but congrats on overcoming it with all that exercise. Good for you for jogging. I hope to be jogging again someday when I get a little less heavy (otherwise it will be tough on the knees). I haven't really looked into pilates. I've been wanting some sort of yoga-type dvd to do on the weekends, isn't pilates somehow related to yoga? I guess I'll need to research it all some more before getting started.

Hey PJ! You were too busy for us because of your children? Now that's a sorry excuse.... Just kidding! We all know what that's like! It's amazing any of us can be overweight when we have them to chase around. Glad to hear things are going well. I hear you about the lifestyle change. I think it's easier to be successful when you think of it that way as opposed to a temporary "diet". That way, you incorporate occasional naughty treats into your life instead of denying yourself and then binging on a bad day.

As far as homeschooling and socialization, if I were to send my child to a traditional school, it would be for him to get an education, NOT to become a social butterfly; they are sent there to learn, not socialize. There are enough activities that children are involved in besides school that develop their social skills. Just my two cents.

About a new thread: Yes, start one! We've been trying to come up with a name. A few posts back, Lara had a cute name in the title of her post, about SAHMs getting skinny. Maybe Slimming SAHMmies or something like that. Or Motivated Moms. (Can you tell I like alliteration?)

Okay, that's enough writing for now. Sorry for the long post. Have a great day.

Cindy

carafre 09-08-2005 06:50 PM

Here

I love the name Slimmin Sahmmies! Anybody else? I hope all is well. So far so crazy here in my world. The upside is that I've been major stressed ( haven't we all!) w/o the binge eating attached. I am proud that I've handled the stress sans food. Big step. Proud am I. Ok I better go since I sound like Yoda! Hope ya'll have a great evening.
carafre

RLK2005 09-08-2005 11:03 PM

Hello! I like the "Slimming Sahmmies" name, too. Have a good weekend eveyone! I will be out of town and trying to stay on plan while I eat out for every meal!

Rikki

loosinbabyfat 09-09-2005 01:34 PM

I like slimming Sahmmies too!! :) Good idea! :)

Today is going well! Yesterday was HORRIBLE, but today is good. Yay!! The kids and I have been keeping busy making apple crips (w/ apples from our OWN tree!!) and pasta sauce. We've also been cleaning like CRAZY. The house fell apart this week when I was so down in the dumps, but today it's back to normal... actually better than normal since I cleaned the fan and dusted the cupboards w/ pledge. :)

Eating today has been good so far. The afternoons are typically when I crash tho. So today I won't!

I went for a 2 mi walk this morning w/ the dog... so it was more like a walk/jog! I did it in 30 mins so that's about walking 4 miles/hr... which is what I want to be doing :) I plan to do my pilates this afternoon... hopefully! I have a ton mroe laundry to fold and put away tho, so we'll see which gets done first :)

carafre 09-09-2005 02:22 PM

Keepin' on

Becca - good for you. I am glad that you feel better today! I've been catching up on the housework, too. Seems like I'm never done, LOL!! Hope your day keeps going well.

Saturday Weigh In

Good Morning Ladies! Hope to hear from all today. Is there a new thread started for us? I didn't see one. I've done very well this week. I'm down to 203.5 as of this a.m.. I am really happy that the exercise is working. My husband is also elated. I can't wait to hear from ya'll.
Take care.
carafre

CynthiaB 09-10-2005 09:45 AM

Woo-hoo!

Good morning, all. Hope you are doing well this morning, as are your kiddies (and kitties, if you have them :)).

Congrats, Carafre, on the loss! Isn't it great working hard all week and then finding out it was worth it? I lost 4 pounds this week. Yay! But more importantly (to me, anyway) is that I broke that 200 barrier. First time in a few years. And only 2 pounds to go for my first mini-goal.

On the other hand, while I feel stronger and more energized through exercising, I don't think I look any different. You would think after almost 20 pounds you would look different. But I was reading about this on another thread, and the general consensus was that it depends on how much you have to lose and your body type. Maybe I'll start noticing a difference after the next 20 pounds.

I haven't seen a new thread either. I think PJ is going to start it, I'm sure she'll tell us where it's at.

Have a great weekend, ladies, and be strong!

Cindy

karmasdogma 09-10-2005 12:35 PM

SAHM are slimming already

Hi All - It's so nice to hear from you guys. Gook work! I had a good week for exercise, been to the gym 4 out of 5 week days. I lost about 2 pounds, which I am happy about. However these are the same two pounds I have lost and gained over and over for the last t months. I decided to mix it up a bit and joined WW last thursday.

I was inspired by another SAHM's mini goal/reward so I am setting one for myself and am going to look into setting up the tracker thingy. Here it is:

Mini Goal #1 - lose 6 more pounds in September
Reward - Spa manicure/pedicure in first week of October

I must say, other people must have better memories than me because I would like to reply to other peoples' posts. And say specific stuff like "wow, nice 4 pound loss, whoever" and "noticing your changing body shape does lag the scale loss in my experience" etc. But when I hit the reply button, I cant see the thread anymore and my mind becomes a blank.

I have to admit to you all that the first time I tried to decipher the term SHAM, I thought, Single, Asian, Homosexual Man. I was really confused. Took me a little while to figure out why all these single guys were named Jenny an Theresa and always talking about their kids :o

Lara

CynthiaB 09-10-2005 01:26 PM

Lara: You crack me up! I almost fell of my chair laughing! (Hey, laughing is good abdominal exercise... boy, we sure get a one-track mind in this forum, huh?)

If you use the "Quick Reply" at the bottom, you can scroll up and look at the previous posts. I don't think you can do that using the "Post Reply" button. The difference is, you can't title your post using "Quick Reply".

Congrats on the loss! You've really come a long way so far. Very inspiring!

Cindy
