New to lose
Hello! I'm new here and thought I'd finally introduce myself.
I'm 31 and have been optimistically referring to myself as "voluptuous" or "Rubenesque" for 15 years. Five years ago I lost the last of my pregnancy weight and reached my lowest adult weight of 153. Now that I've gained some back, I'm working to lose it again and even more. My husband loves my body, but he would love to see me with some toned biceps! (and I would like new clothes!)
I am an excellent cook (which is sometimes dangerous) and I do use a lot of fruits and veggies. We do not buy processed foods or chips or soda, and I try to buy organic when the budget allows. My weaknesses are breads, cheeses and sweets. Seems when I get started with sweets it's hard to stop--a whole day lost for the want of a single cookie! And don't even get me started on garlic bread...mmm, garlic bread! I have been working on my portion sizes more than anything else and learning to pay attention to the "full" feeling.
My biggest challenge, though, is exercise---I have to force myself to get out of bed for work, so getting up for a workout is tough. I feel like I go through cycles of punishing myself and spoiling myself and I'm trying to get to a point where exercise is just a part of me and not something I have to make myself do.
I work best on a deadline and with friendly competition, so feel free to bring it on! We're going on a four day backpacking hike in the mountains this summer and I'm signing up for a 5k run in October. A friend does bicycle tours in Italy and I want to be able to keep up just as soon as we can afford the airfare. We're going on a weekend B&B trip with friends in Oct and I know a hot tub will be involved at some point ('nuff said).
I am looking to lose 30-35 pounds--and I'd like 10 to be gone by the hot tub trial. If anyone is interested, I'd love a buddy who can give me little fitness / nutrition challenges and won't let me skate by on excuses ( a skill of mine!) I will do the same!
In the meantime, I am going to avoid the breakroom here because someone brought in petit-fours! (oh dark chocolate, it can never be...)
