I would like to have a buddy to help support, and get support from for those last few pounds hanging around. I have been struggling for awhile with how to make that happen. Let's talk. Amy
Hey gang, can I join here?
I'm 45 mom of 3 boys (15, 13, and 4---yes4)
Ww member since 1973, Lifetime in 85, off and on for years
At goal now, but would like to drop 8-10 more....
Go every Saturday to meetings, I love my group and really really love the 2 hours away from the kids on Sat mornings
I dont enjoy excersizing, never go to the gym that i joined over a year ago...but do love to walk. Get in at least 2 miles at day, usually upwards of 4 miles.
Work full time, but try to get on computer each night.
Hope to see you all around...
I am in NY, but my cousin is in Japan, will get exact area and let you know.
Dont know how to put the bar below, but will try to figure it out .....
Hi Julia, and welcome Amy and "Gotnogirls". Yeah, it seems like having a few pounds to lose makes it hard to be motivated to go ahead and really hit that goal weight. Is it true the last pounds are the hardest?
I went to the gym this morning and did an Upper Body Workout (UBWO) and boy did it feel great. Oh, sorry, but yeah, I actually like my exercises! I think it's an aquired taste - you just do it for a while, and after a while, you actually like it. Probably having a partner to go with is key (my husband) - keeps me motivated, and we can chat between exercises and encourage one another. Our schedule is flexible so we can almost always go together.
I think I missed something about Japan????
Have a great day everyone. Watch your intake, and get that body moving!
Pat Benetar? Wow, when's the last time I even heard that name????

Stick to it, I'm sure you'll start to see more results even if it happens slowly. A pound lost is much better than a pound gained!
OK, I'm having to take my own advice now. I haven't lost anything AT ALL this week. I keep telling myself that losing weight isn't the ultimate goal, getting into good physical condition is, but it's hard when the # on the scale is the only real tangible at this point.
Having said that, I do feel much better and I think I'm starting to see my cardio workout get easier. One of my goals was to be able to hike up hill without getting so out of breath and last night I did 30 minutes on the treadmill at the max incline (15%). When we camped at the bottom of that volcano we hiked up the side (about 1500 vertical feet) the next morning and I never did get to the top. Admittedly, I'm sure it had something to do with the fact that the altitude was 14,000 feet but that didn't make me feel really good about myself. The other branch of my gym has a treadmill that goes up to 50% incline so I may start going over there and using it.
I'm jealous that you have someone dedicated to working out with you. I started going to the gym with my sister back in Feb. but then realized that when she came up with an excuse not to go I used the fact that she wasn't going as MY excuse not to go. Moral of the story, it's better for me to go alone and not feel like I have to wait for someone else to get their gumption up too.
Amy, Gotnogirls, feel free the chime in, the more the merrier.
Whew! I'm ready for my Saturday Free Day! I'm tired of not eating ice cream and cookies and all the other yummy things I want! This morning I fixed banana pancakes for my kids, but I ate fruit and an egg-white omelet (one whole egg and two or three whites) cooked in Pam! I'd have rather eaten the pancakes! Okay, okay! I'm getting fit.... I'm getting fit.... I'm getting fit... (my new mantra!!!)
Sorry about that ole' scale, Julia. I sure understand that. I'm not weighing in until Saturday. Hopefully I'll see something different this week.
And YEAH! You CAN'T use climbing at high altitudes to check how in our out of shape you are! Especially if you live at or near sea level! Nontheless, I remember the first time I had really started working out, and was starting to see a difference. I went on a retreat at a lake house, and a few of us were hiking up from the lake to the house, up a steep hill, and I was the only one NOT huffing and puffing. So it DOES pay off!
Have a great day! Exercise! Eat right! - Laura Y
OK, went to the other gym and got on a machine called a Stairmaster Gauntlet. It's basically a reverse escalator so it really is like climbing steps (or at least more so that a regular stairmaster). Did that for 10 whole minutes - or 33 floors as it told me when I finished. That was when I decided that it would be a good idea to get on the new treadmill. O-H M-Y G-O-D I had no idea what a 50% incline was. I was doing 10-15% without any real trouble but once I got up to about 25% I had to hold on to the bar for dear life. At 50% I could only hang on for about a minute at a time. I literally have callouses on my hands from gripping the safety bar. Needless to say, it was a good work out.
My new resolution is to avoid the scale for at least a week at a time. I'm going to try to go for 2 weeks but I don't know if I can hold out for that long.

I don't know if I could do so well with my eating if I were fixing things for other people - particularly things I really like. Hats off to you for abstaining!
Are you guys all doing weight watchers. Cause I have LOTS of recipes for alltypes of foods, appetizers, desserts, main dishes, etc... just let me know....
Excersize, lets see I have been trying to do the Leslie Sanzone walking tapes--there are one two and three mile tapes (I am doing the Avon WalK for Breast Cancer in October---its a 40 mile 2 day walk, so I am hoping these tapes are a good training tool!)
Anyway today i did the 2 mile tape and then the 8 minute tae bo work out,, only I put the wrong tape in and wound up doing the 20 minute basic tae bo tape instead. I WAS DEAD WHEN I WENT TO WALK..... I think it was the lack of food (no breakfast) that made me put the wrong tape in HA!! LOL
Do you guys work out and weigh yourselves every day??? I try to stay away from the scale until my WW weigh in's on Saturday morning..
Merri - I'm doing WW - I was strictly on the Body for Life program, but wasn't seeing much result on the scale - so I'm going two weeks of WW and see if it's any better. I'm also working out faithfully with the BFL program - three days a week at the gym alternating upper and lower body on alternate days - and three days of 20 minutes intensive cardio training - for me with a messed up disk, that means an exercise bike. I think Julia is counting calories whereas I am counting points. I try to weigh only once a week, but the scale is quite a temptation.
Now... WHY did you skip breakfast?!? You know that's the most important meal of the day! Good luck on the two day walk! Wow!
Julia - Whoa cool on the stairmaster. I go to a little tiny gym and it doesn't have anything as sophisticated as that. We just have to go climb a real mountain! HA!
Yes, Merri, I would appreciate recipes. I live in Mexico, so I'm limited on what special ingredients we can buy. I cook fairly simply when dieting - plain ole' chicken breast, plain veggies, etc.
Have a great day!
Laura
Hi everyone--I'd like to join in if I can. I am a WW Lifetime member since last Nov. and lo and behold, after about a month of not writing down my food, here are 6 unwelcome pounds back on!
So I have cut back to 20 points (the lowest one can go) and am writing down all the food again. Also cutting back on salty food/snacks.
I am a 6th grade teacher and my school year just ended. My own 2 children will be in camp (day camp) part of the summer. Today I take my son and some of his friends to see Batman Begins--Max is turning 13 next week. So far, for the few days I've been home, I've felt relaxed and in control of my eating. My classroom stuff that I brought home is sitting in my living room in about 40 grocery store bags. Not a lovely sight. I am about to tackle some filing now while everyone else is still asleep.
Laura, thanks for the encouragement for the walk. I just got back (its 11:15pm here, had to go out late cause my neighbor couldnt leave till 9:30, its was about a 3 mile walk, which isnt too long for us... but its dark out there LOL , AND WE ARE OLD !!!!
I started a yahoo group a while back with mostly ww recipes if you go to yahoo groups, wwearlybirds is the group, scan through there and you can see loads of recipes, I will try to upload more cause I have been really lazy about posting on that group. Let me know if there is something special you want. I think I posted a whole file of ww desserts on the yahoo group board.
if you cant get in, send me your email address and i will send you an invite., or if you dont want to post your email here then send me an instant message at wegotnogirls (instant messenger is free at aim.com) .
elenajel, what state are you in. I work at the district office of our school district, NY and have a son who just graduated from middle school (also a HS boy and 4 year old boy)... Bet you cant wait for summer....
I didnt do the morning excersize today, and myfriends are trying to get me to go back to the gym---I realy envy those of you who actually get up and go to the gym, I cant seem to get there, even though i pay every month!!!!
Hi Everyone - Ugh - I never got to my exercises today! But tomorrow morning we'll go to the gym - so maybe I'll add in an extra 20 minutes of cardio training.
ALSO - today I found out that I was counting a cereal wrong. I eat a bowl of "Great Grains" almost every evening and count 2 points for it like WW says for "cereals in general" - ugh - then I found the point calculator formula on line and did the little formula with the calories/fat grams/fiber and came out with the fact that it is 8 points!!! I was counting 2 pts. for one cup but it is the same as granola, which is 4 pts. for 1/2 cup. What a disappointment!
Glad you're all joining in! Thanks for the advice on the recipes. I'll check on that and see if I can find them.
My hubby and I went to see Batman Begins too. I thought it was a good movie. Did you see his muscles? I wonder how long those movie stars have to work out to build muscles like that - and was he already like that, or was that just for the part of Batman?
Tomorrow (June 24) is my birthday. I will be 43. That sounds old to me, but I feel great. This is birthday month at my house. Mine, and two of my daughters already had birthdays this month (9 and 11). I also have a 16 year old daughter and an 18 year old son. My goal is for someone to tell me he couldn't possibly be my son because I look too young!
Have a great day everyone. Get that booty moving!
- Laura
Hi everyone-I loved Batman Begins--thought the visuals were excellent--it was about 20 minutes too long and the villians could have been a bit more well developed in the script. Overall, worth the money. I took my son and a few of his friends.
I live in Mass., just outside of Boston. The past few days have been a mixed bag, foodwise. My exercise has been good. I truly regret buying nacho chips (that my son Max wanted)--I have clipped the bag shut and hidden it from myself. Salty food is always my downfall when it comes to staying on my points target.
I am weighing in on Sunday morning. I expect I'll be down about .5 from when I checked at my YMCA scale. I think I would benefit from going to meetings more often--I only have to monthly now that I am Lifetime but my eating has been less controlled than I would like.
Today is a beautiful day and I'm taking some of my Barnes and Noble gift cards (that nice students gave me as year-end gifts) and treating myself!
Just got back in town after a couple days gone for work. I've gotten in no workouts the last 2 days & I'm already starting to feel like a slug for it. I'm calling that a good thing since it means I really miss it & don't feel right when I don't get it whereas before I had to make myself go. Getting up early tomorrow and hitting the gym.

I'd love to be able to take you up on that offer but I'm remodeling my house and the only thing I have to cook in is a toaster oven right now The last couple of months my whole diet has almost completely consisted of broiled or baked fish, chicken or shrimp with some occasional nachos thrown in. Makes things easier that pasta isn't an option AND I don't have room in there to cook more than one serving of anything!
Happy Birthday Laura - I hope all your wishes come true - especially the impossible to have a son that age thing
Total Bummerthat there was still no movement on the scale. Actually, it indicated that I had gained one pound back. This week I am determined to lose something! Our one free day turned into two this weekend, so this morning (Monday) we're back on track. Already we went to the gym and did our LBWO and ate a healthy breakfast. (I ate oatmeal sprinkled with linseeds and he had an eggwhite omelet and leftover piece of french toast).
I've decided that I'm going to weigh in DAILY this week - cuz' waiting until Saturday and then finding out I hadn't lost any pounds was VERY disappointing! So maybe with a daily weigh-in I'll be more motivated to watch it.
Hope everyone is having a great week. How did you do over the weekend?
Laura
