Default Hi everyone!

I am new here, and I am so glad that I stumbled upon this site! Just what I have been looking for!

I am 34 years old and have finally had enough of being fat! I am ready to do something about it! My husband and I have been trying for 4 1/2 years to get pregnant and finally I was diagnosed with a tubal disorder. We have gone through everything imaginable and tried our first In-Vitro Fertilization and it failed. The Dr said my weight had nothing to do with it, but I am not so sure! After the failed IVF, it only made me want to eat more! I got very depressed and could not figure out why this was happening to me. I think God is giving me a wake up call. Letting me figure out that I cannot be this heavy and try and carry a baby without having health problems!! I have decided that I am too young to feel as old as I do, currently I weigh 287 lbs. My goal is 165 lbs, although I am prepared to take it one day at a time.

I live in Grand Rapids, MI and would like to chat with people who feel the same as me. I think with support I can realize my dreams!

Thanks for listening!
Kerri

Hello Kerri!

You have found a wonderful place for support AND information! The people here are amazing! I think that there is a "special" thread for those who are trying to conceive. I'm not sure where it is....but search for it!

My sister and her husband had similar heartbreak trying to have a baby! She had several diagnosis that "prevented" a healthy pregnancy. They also tried (and were kicked out of the clinic when it didn't work after multiple attempts) medical interventions. Depression is only 1 of many emotions that they experienced! She gained an unreasonable amount of weight from all of the drugs and all of the emotions. It was quite a difficult time! Making a long story short.... They decided to abandon the goal of a birth child and look into adoption. At the same time, they joined WW and she lost about 60 pounds! Within in a year, my sister ended up pregnant. Multiple diagnosis, failed medical intervention, etc... OR NOT! My neice is a gift! Her middle name is Grace! My sister's doctors can not explain HOW this child came to be! We've learned to expect miracles! They *DO* happen! (If you'd like to hear more, PM or email me! )

Best wishes with all of your dreams!
Take care!

Kerri, I really feel for you. I am infertile. I have endometrosis, and after three years of hormone shots, multiple surgeries, and procedures, I was very fortunate to conceive via IVF. However, my doctor told me that only 33% of the time is IVF successful the first time around. I happened to be one of the lucky ones. They implanted 4 embryos and I became pregnant with twins. One of the twins didn't make it to term. But I have a beautiful daughter. I know many people who had to do IVF twice or three times. But I do agree with you that becoming healthy first is better. I gained 40 pounds during the pregnancy partly because I had to take hormones to maintain the pregnancy. If I could do it over again, I would lose weight first. I would get as healthy and strong as possible. I would also talk to someone who could provide you the support you will need during those scary times when you want to give up. But, don't give up on becoming a mom...whether it is your birth child or an adoptive child, motherhood is truly the greatest gift of all. I will be thinking of you.
