Smile Hopeful

Hi ladies. I stumbled upon your website tonight because I couldn't sleep and I was surfing the web. I have to say I was 100% inspired by reading your posts. And I hope that by joining your support structure I might finally be successful at losing this excess weight. I am 5'2" and I weigh 278. My goal weight according to most people would be 135. But more realistically - I'm shooting for 150. I would be ELATED at 150. I just moved to Illinois from Oklahoma - and I'm starting my life over again. I graduated from college December 2003 - and I'm hopeful that soon I'll be on the right track with a new great job - a lot of new friends, and maybe even a new boyfriend?? (Since I broke up with mine when I moved here.) This move was and still is really scary for me. And I'm fighting the urge to seek comfort in food. But it's really hard. What I can say for myself is that I haven't had any fast food whatsoever in a month. And for someone who acutally went through a phase of eating fast food 3 sometimes 4 times EVERY DAY - that's saying a WHOLE LOT. I don't know if I've lost any weight from that change. My clothes are fitting better - but I haven't weighed myself yet.

I am hopeful. Which is a big step for me - because I have always struggled with my weight, and I've given up on getting healthy more than once. So - thank you in advance for giving me hope. I'll be posting again soon.

Welcome Bella Amber! First I want to say how strong and brave you are for making that move. Being alone can be scary but think how empowering it is at the same time. You have already done well by resisting the urge to seek comfort in food.

This is a great place for support. You can definitely do this, you already sound like you have the right outlook! Many of us have tried and failed (I prefer a small setback) but we are here now still at it.

I personally am following the South Beach plan but whatever plan you decide to follow or whether you do your own healthy eating and exercise, just know that we are here for you to cheer you on and listen to you vent! We are all in this together. Welcome to 3fc. Hope to hear from you soon. Good luck and take care!

Steph - Thank you so much for replying to my post! I know it's going to be a hard road ahead. But with people like you on my side - it will be MUCH easier!!!

Default Hi!

Hi there!

Welcome to the boards! I just want to say that your story really inspired me. I'm so afraid of change and often times put my life on hold because I am too scared. But you have made a big move to another state, put off fast food and have now decided to begin a healthier life. You should be so proud of yourself for being so strong and so brave. I really look up to you

It's wonderful that you've pushed fast food out of your life for a month! I am still trying to completely swear it off. It's evil!! It's a great accomplishment and such a healthy step already!!

I don't follow any certain diet, I am just trying to eat better and exercise. I never ate any veggies or fruits before so slowly I am making myself become fond of them I joined 3FC a few weeks ago and was at 225. I haven't weighed myself yet because I'm too afraid, but I will someday soon

I wish you the best of luck on your new journey and I am here if you need someone to talk to!

I too would like to welcome you. I remember my first time logging on here and I even went away for a while and really got serious about this weightloss journey in February of this year. This site is to me a warm friend who you can always come back to or even stick around for support when you are not quite OP (on program)

It really doesn't matter what you do, you will find some great friends here who are all going through the same thing in one form or another. I was looking for some motivation to get back on track and you have helped! Thank you and I hope you stick around and join in on this wonderful journey with us all!

I have to say - I LOVE this site. I can not believe how much support you have given me already! Thank you Dale, Dee, Becky and Steph for making me feel so welcome and that I have a group of people who are eager to lend an ear, shoulder, or whatever else might be necessary!! I have to say - giving up fast food is an every day struggle. It is so hard to drive past them and come home to what sometimes ends up being just a PB & J or some fruit. But the longer I go without eating the fast food - the better I feel about my chances to lose weight. Also - I am wearing a string of embroidery floss on my wrist so anytime I reach for junk food, or think about buying some - I see that pink string - and am reminded of my goal.

Now if only I could trick myself into getting out there and getting some exercise. I want to start walking in the evenings. But I haven't started that yet. Just can't convince myself to get up off my lazy bum and do it. Any suggestions?

Becky - thank you for your kind words about my recent move. It is really one of the scariest things EVER! But I really feel that I've made the right decision - and that my life is about to take an interesting turn for the POSITIVE!!!

I am not going to follow any particular weight loss plan. But I MIGHT look into joining Curves as a place to work out. Has anyone been to Curves??

Until tomorrow, Ladies!! Be strong! Remember your goal! We can achieve our goals together!!!

Hello ladies,

I also am new. 5'2" and sw of 271. I know that you can do it. I have joined Curves and I love it!! I never thought I would feel comfortable working out somewhere other then home but Curves is very welcoming. BellaAmber you are so brave to move to a new place. Just remember it is day by day. That is what I have to tell myself all the time.

Hi Amber--

I'm new too and also a transplant to Illinois. I've also fought the fast-food demon--I'm a workaholic, and I got into the habit of driving through to save time. I've had a number of friends encourage me to start cooking for myself--because I always say I only cook when I have company--and I'm working on that. Tonight all I did was make rice and open a can of Chinese veggies, but hot food is so much more satisfying than just a sandwich. And I poured my ice water into a wine glass, and lit a candle for myself. All that might not be your cup of tea, but I think you should reward yourself for skipping that disgusting, artery-clogging fast food by doing something nice for yourself along with your healthy dinner.
