Exclamation new here and needing a buddy..or two...or three:)

Hello all! Okay, this is me:
34, stay-at-home wedding cake chick with two kids--8 yr. old girl and 4 yr old boy. I've been married nearly 12 years (!!!!). I was diagnosed with PCOS about 1 1/2 years ago, but wasn't ever put on anything that did any good. I gained weight with all meds, and am currently on a birth control pill that is supposed to help wrangle in those free floaty testosterone bits?! We'll see!

I'm 5'10"....204lbs (this is the largest I've ever been!) and just absolutely at my wits end.

I've tried Atkins and lost weight but gained it all back after my first bite of sugar. I gained weight on weight watchers, but didn't exercise so I'm not counting it out entirely. I just bought the South Beach Diet book and it looks interesting. Doc says to give low carb a go as long as it's healthy.

I haven't exercised in about 7 months and am really feeling it. I'm totally dreading summer right now

I would love to find someone who is up to a challenge and will help me keep track of food, exercise, etc...

Oh, I live in Colorado and my husband is currently training for an Ironman (he's done plenty of triathlons...sickening ). I am not able to go to a gym to work out, but have lots of room at home, plus the mountains all around me!

Hope to hear from you all soon! Kelley

PCOS is polycystic ovarian syndrome, which is what I've been diagnosed with. From what I've been told, your body makes excess testosterone and has trouble ridding itself of glucose. I'm sure there's much more I could be talking about, but for me it has brought on excess body hair and facial hair (always attractive!), excess weight, lack of energy and sex drive, and real problems with my blood sugar. I came to this whole website because I saw that there are many chat groups centered on PCOS. I've had problems finding others who know what it is and how to deal with it, so coming across this site has been a true blessing!!!

I hope I made sense here.

yes, thanks for the explanation. I have never heard of that condition, and really, you would think with all that extra testosterone you would have a much higher sex drive.
but its my guess the lack of energy is really a problem and maybe there is something in diet changes and or medication that can get you back on track.
good luck to you and glad your here for support...

Hi Kelley,
I also have pcos finally found out after many years. My male doctor kept saying "It must be nice not to have periods and It was ok not to have them" come to find out I could end up with cancer if I continued not to have at least 4 a year. I Have a female doctor now and I'm getting help. (I know not all male doc are idiots). I don't have many of the problems you said you do. But its still a pain in the butt. I have a small group and we would love to have you join us and chat. It's not about pcos we are all trying to lose weight and we chat about everything and are very supportive. You can find it by searching for alexias together. The mes. board is called "alexias together we will lose the weight" Hope to hear from you. Have a great weekend!

Default I'm new too!

Girl, I love your height, I'm only 5'7" and am working on losting 46 pounds. I weighed 186 when I went to the doctor two weeks ago and I knew it was time. Health wise it is not smart and physically and emotionally it all can be hurt!

Do you use a food jorurnal? I have a small book that I track daily what I eat and my exercise. Plus I just bought a software diet program to help me do it that way and so far it is pretty good. I am doing just a low calorie diet with exercise.

I loved your reply, you admit to watching those "chick flick" movies. I will tell you what I hate the most: the commercials, all about food. Makes it tough for us dieters. Is your wife dieting with you or is she one of those lucky ones. My hubby is or thinks he is on a sneak diet, he is supporting me, but also eating what I eat just a bit more. I think he thinks he needs to lose some weight (he looks good but it wouldn't hurt) so he is following my plan by acting like he is just supporting me? He is a trip, he is one of those Macho types, not in body but in attidude, wouldn't admit to having an emotional feeling if it killed him dead. He was raised by a single mom, no brothers or sisters and knowing how kids her I bet they teased him about being a momma's boy. Of course he wouldn't admit to this. Anyway, how much have you lost so far and how are you doing it.

Lightbulb Noticed something this weekend!

My wife and I went away this weekend - we went Ottawa....which was a blast! While on vacation, my wife and I went shopping (my wife's really got a shopping issue....she can't stop! LOL....although I'm serious....she is ALWAYS SHOPPING!) When we were in the store's like JC Penny's or Kaufmans or Lord & Taylor - when we went to the registers to pay for her clothes (and yes she bought clothes in ALL THOSE STORES!) there was a box of some sort of chocolates next to the registers.....now, my wife shops in the plus size areas, and WITHOUT exception, there was some form of candy bar at the register in that part of the store.....I took a walk around to the petite sections and the "normal" areas....and sure enough....no chocolates!!!! Noticing this...I really looked closely at the other stores we went too....and sure enough - it was the same thing....as my wife puts it - "it's the fat girls reward for finding clothes that fit" but honestly, It kinda is sad and I almost said something to one of the sales ladies....(however, my wife doesn't let me speak unlses spoken too! LOL)

But the next time your out shopping - see if you notice the same thing.....It's kind of cruel but it's really happening!

Just thought I'd pass on my lightbulb of a revelation.

Hope all is well.....Scott

Glad you had a good time in Ottawa - nuggs!

I never noticed that about clothing stores since there seems to be chocolates and candies at most cashes in a lot of stores for impulse buying. In Chapters here they always have Godiva chocolate bars at the cash. And I have noticed Godiva chocolates at the registers in lingerie stores.

Maybe we should go to the plus size sections of the department stores, pick up the entire display of chocolates and then move them to the registers in the petites department!

Default What a lightbulb

Nugs

What a lightbulb! I've never noticed but next time I will! and I will never be tempted again because now I know it is just one of their sick marketing ploys! Probably did some kind of study! Your wife sounds like my hubby's x, if I had just heard that from him I would blow it off as just normal complaints on the x, but where he use to live the neighbors told me (3) that everyday she went out and came back with bags and bags of stuff she had bought. I don't understand that, is there really that much stuff to buy out there. I hate buying clothes being 46lbs overweight, I will enjoy it more when I am down to my goal.

Are you ready to face a new week?

Default I love my wife and all....

but I really (truly) think that she likes shopping WAYYY too much....I mean we were in Ottawa for 3 days and she managed to go to 2 malls, the market, Ikea (which is an amazing store) and we even were "forced" to stop at an outlet center on the way up to ottawa....and oh yah....she "needed" to stop at the duty free shop too (ok....I really wanted to pick up some beer....but she "shopped" in the clothing section)

Her big thing is Jewelery - she can't EVER pass up a store/table/section that has any form of jewelery (thank god she isn't into the expensive stuff!) But I guarentee you that going into a womans store....we might walk out with some clothes...but we WILL walk out with some jewelery....that's just the way she is (and I LOVE her for that!).

I guess it could be worse....she could be that way about diamonds or gold or something EXPENSIVE like that.....I just have to laugh about it at times because it seems so "stereotypical" to see my wife want to shop this much!

As far as the store candybar thing.....in Kaufmans....they sell Godiva chocolates at the (using my wife's terms here) Big girl registers only....nothing around any other register.

I'm sure it didn't take much of a study to show where the best locations are to put candy is....lol.....I just wish they'd put them in the mens department!!!

And here's a million dollar idea.....what I think would be a gangbuster marketing ploy......if these types of stores got liquor licences.....it would make my trips to the mall much more relaxing....it might even get me to be ok with the amount of time and money my wifey spends in the store....don't you think????

Morning all. I've never noticed the chocs around the registers in the stores here. (I from the NYC suburbs) but I wasn't really looking. But shopping the last 20 yrs at the (as Nuggs wife calls them "Big girls" ) register, I'm surprised I didn't. Is this something new? It wouldn't surprise me. Just like health ins companies don't pay for preventive health care (they make more $$$ when your sick and unhealthy & the pharmicuticals make out too) maybe the fashion industry found a cash cow (no pun intended) on us "big girls". Look at the national obesity numbers. They are going up all the time. Keep us fat & keep selling. Boy that sucks. I need more
