Default Gained 80 lbs... time to lose it!

Hi everyone! I'm new here and am not totally sure if this forum is also for guys, so apologies if I am in the wrong place...

I used to be extremely fit and health conscious, 170-185 lbs at 6'1". But I may have overdone it and burned out. Then, I gained 50 lbs over a few years, followed by another 30 lbs this year, for a total of 80 lbs! As you can imagine I really enjoyed eating all I wanted, but it was shocking to see the scale read in the 250s and be officially obese. To top it off, a good friend recently kept poking my belly as if to point out how fat I have gotten. So, it's time to do something about it! I don't think 185 lbs is sustainable for me so I would like to aim for a fit 200-210 lbs.

I've attached a pic from my fit days at 182 lbs and one closer to my current weight at 248 lbs (I know, shocking right!?). My goal is closer to my fit pic but not quite that thin.

Thanks for your support!

Welcome to 3FC forums, person. There are a few guys posting on here and I am sure they would love to give advice and help if you need it. My DH was up to 230 lbs, but when I started cooking healthy and we started making better choices when eating out, he has lost 40 lbs. I am doing the South Beach plan. I love eating this way because after ditching the whites (sugar, flour, potatos, rice), I no longer have cravings for that stuff anymore, which is great because I am a sugarholic.

Hi person! We chicks love roosters around here, so you are in the right place, lol! Since you were once extremely health and fitness conscious, I assume you know the healthy types of foods to eat (and I agree with Kat that cutting down on "whites" is the thing to do). You'll be amazed at how quickly you'll be able to shed those 40 lbs once you get started eating well again, and of course exercise is always a good idea. You'll get lots of support here, so take a look around and jump right in! Good luck!

Thanks, Kat and Jacqui for the warm welcome! I think you are right about starches and sugars. I don't eat much processed starch but I make up for it in sugar. I really need to cut back on that first (RIP ice cream) and add back a consistent exercise routine.

Person: Welcome and keep up the good work! I actually began here because my DH was told he needed to lose weight by his doctor. He's at his highest as I am as well. He's not 100% decided to lose weight, and other than eating what I cook, that's where he is at as I work with my weight. Keep up with the exercise when you can, and yes, it's hard to say good bye to ice cream BTDT, but you have decided to make a change and guys always loose quicker than gals - it just is. So good luck to you for deciding to make a change in your life and welcome here. I have found it to be an inspiring group of people who are all on this crazy journey. They do have a lot of insight and they are a great group for cheering you on especially when you are having a tough moment. Just dive on in.
