Giselly and Sage2 Thank you for the ticker information. Hopefully I'll be able to master how to do it after 20 days. Also, thank you so much for the support. This site is so wonderful.

Hi, you can also use other tools, like myfitnesspal to track your diet and exercise. I have one and I love it; it keeps me on track and makes me be sure I have my protein and other nutrients in for the day. And, when I exercise, it shows me how many more calories I have earned, but I do not plan using those earned calories and going over my set plan of no more than 1200 calories, 125 grams of protein, 65 grams of carbs, and 5 to 15 grams of fat daily. I find drinking two or three ISOPure Zero Carb Protein Powder drinks, like alpine punch or Banana Creme ( these mix with water) help me in reaching my daily diet goals. The Vitamin SHoope sells them online, they are like $45-50 a container, but a container lasts me over a month and is cheaper than groceries. I also make sure I take a vitamin, or have some Emergen-C in my water to get my nutrients too. I am a tad younger than you, but disabled and have brittle bones, so I have to be careful in what I do, so I choose rowing as my exercise. I can sit on my rower, and row for an hour at a 20 to 30 stokes per minute and get a great work-out without worry of falling down. If you have access to a rower, I highly recommend the exercise. Just take it slow and steady and row as you can, and try to work up to longer periods of time. Also, remember, if you exercise for 15 minutes in the morning, 15 minutes in the afternoon and then again in the evening, you have squeezed 15 minutes of exercise in without it taking up a large amount of time, or being too strenuous. Good Luck! =])

CikanThank you for all your wonderful tips. I'll go check out myfitnesspal site and will see if Canada has the Zero Carb Protein Powder drinks.
For exercise I have purchased a treadmill and so far (only 4 days ago) am walking 12 minutes 2x per day and am hoping to increase that but I do have a problem with breathing as I have COPD and I get out of breath easily.

I also purchased a pedometer too and keep track of my daily steps on a calendar. The pedometer also shows calories burned and distance walked. I put it on first thing in the morning until bedtime. I try to increase my steps each day.

Thank you again and have a wonderful day.

Hi Karrine and a late to the site!

I think it's great all the input these great 3FC'ers have given here!

I am impressed that you do snow removal I am a little south of you but if you get anywhere near the amount of snow that we do..ugh... I hope you have help with the snow removal!! And good for you for the gardening also.

I am hoping you can incorporate strength exercises (and that you are cleared for that from your doctor?) You mentioned weights that are too heavy now but that is great that you have them, work your way up to them gradually, I used to use canned food from the pantry before I bought my dumbbells (oh sorry, they are called free weights )

I am 54 and want to remain active and flexible as long as I can!

for myself, I go to youtube.com and find the videos by the wonderful young couple Daniel and Kelly, www.fitnessblender.com I love to just choose a workout depending on my mood and modify to my abilities.

good luck!

Holly Thank you for the welcome. Yes I am overwhelmed at the response I have received from my post and so very grateful to everyone. Now that I have introduced myself I have switched over to the 50+ Golden Girls thread in case anyone wants to see what I'm up to.

We get quite a bit of snow here in the winter and I had to ask for help when my snow blower had to go in for repairs. Last winter was colder than the year before but a little less snow. So far they are calling for a normal winter here.

I found my weights and they are 5 lbs. so I am able to use them but I can't do too many reps yet. I do more stretching right now as I am so very out of shape and really hurt if I try to overdo it. I also have a treadmill but can't walk too long without a rest due to my COPD. However, I can see a small difference from when I started last Sunday.

You sure are thinking right to be keeping active and flexible at age 54. That will pay off when you get to my age. I'm afraid I can't follow a video workout as I can't keep up but thank you for the tip and I'm sure others here will look it up.

Have a wonderful day and thank you again
