Hi, I'm Halee and I just turned 26. I am a mother of three children who drive me absolutely nuts all day long. I'm 5'5" and (around) 220 lbs. I'm really not sure how much I weigh. I've avoided the scale for like a month now; I'm guessing it's not going to be good when I hop on tomorrow, but it's something I must face so I can finally deal with it.
I've become a binge eater, but I refuse to throw up. I had enough of that throwing up crap when I was pregnant with my kiddos. I was sick all 9 months with my first son, yuck!
It's not uncommon for me to sit down and eat like four brownies, a whole can of Pringles, and whatever else I can get my hands on. And even after eating way more than any normal person should be able to handle, I still feel hungry. The hungry feeling NEVER EVER goes away. I can go a few days without binging but then all of a sudden I feel possessed and I just start eating EVERYTHING. I mean, what the eff is wrong with me? I just want to feel normal and not think about food every single minute of the day. Ugh!
End rant.
I'm a chatty person with an open mind. I love talking to just about anyone. If you're in need of a weight loss pal or something, I would love to be there for you. I don't have much of a support system. My husband once told me that he wanted me to stay fat so that I wouldn't leave him (WTF!) So yeah...I would love to find someone out there to laugh with me, cry with me, and do this with me: ...looking forward to meeting ya'll on here, everyone seems pretty nice
Hi Halee! You'll get lots of support here! Have you read anything about being carb-sensitive? This is a quick, non-scientific (lol) version of how that goes:
1. Your blood sugar drops drastically, so you want something to eat that will raise it quickly and effectively, so you grab yummy quick-carb foods, like brownies or Pringles.
2. Your blood sugar shoots up high in response to those quick carbs.
3. In response to the high blood sugar, your pancreas produces insulin, only it doesn't produce just enough to level out your blood sugar, but rather it floods your system with insulin.
4. Because of the flood of insulin, your blood sugar drops quickly and drastically.
5. See step 1.
Even if you have just eaten 4 brownies and a whole can of Pringles, in a short time, you will want to eat again because your blood sugar will drop again. It doesn't matter if your tummy should be full because it's your blood sugar that is driving your hunger.
Not everyone's body reacts this way, but for those who are carb-sensitive, this is basically how it goes, and what's worse is that it can eventually lead to type 2 diabetes. The way to break this cycle is not just to eat less food, which of course you need to do in order to lose weight, but to eat fewer quick-carb foods and that means going low-carb or low-glycemic index. There are lots of good low-carb diets out there (Atkins, Paleo, Ideal Protein, Slow Carb, etc.) or you can even count calories if that's your preferred weight loss method as long as you reduce quick-burning carbs while doing that.
Anyway, I wish you the best! You can break that hunger cycle, and you can lose weight! Good luck!
Hi Halee! Welcome! I was actually going to post a re-introduction since I have been away from this website for a while but when I found yours at the top and read it I knew I didn't need to because you sound exactly like me! I know exactly how you feel and what you're going through (right down to not wanting to get on the scale) and I know this is a great place for you to get the support you need. Look forward to seeing more of your posts!
Hello there xocessy! I got on the scale today and I am right at 225, and it says that you are too! How funny is that! Looking forward to be on this journey with you, we can do it!
hello - i agree this sounds very familiar to my introduction! especially the 4 brownie part!
My biggest problem is my desk job means im sat down sometimes upto 17hrs a day! I think i saw some photos from over christmas and realised how out of control i have let myself get..
I have hit my heaviest weight ever - 220 and decided to kick myself into action, so looks like we are around the same!
Welcome to 3FC! I've gotten tons of great advice and support on here. And every time I'm away for a day or so, I just feel like I NEED to come back, because it really makes me feel stronger to be here. Knowing how many of these folks have made tremendous strides, annihilated huge personal challenges, and killed their goals, let ALONE being able to feel the connection you make with people fighting the same fight. That's empowering. It's a nice feeling to have this kind of support!!
Though I have most of you by a good ten pounds. I would LOVE to be a part of this little support circle! I've been dealing with many of these problems (difference being, I binge like there's no tomorrow every single time alcohol hits my belly... so there's that)
We're all in this same damn boat, lets row it in to the shores of the achieved goals!
Though I have most of you by a good ten pounds. I would LOVE to be a part of this little support circle!
Absolutely, let's do this
And thanks for the very warm welcome ya'll! I can't wait to see where this takes us! I'm following the slow-carb diet (with some tweaks...i'll allow myself to have unsweetened applesauce and cheese occasionally) as mentioned above by jacque. I found that I am very carb sensitive upon my research last night and tried the diet today.
I have to say I feel amazing already. I didn't have one single craving or binge. WHOOP WHOOP! Going to try this for 2 weeks and see how much weight I lose and how I feel to see if I will continue!
Here is what my menu looked like today:
Breakfast: 2 whole eggs & one egg white omelet style with cheddar cheese.
Snack: 2 celery stalks with all natural peanut butter
Lunch: Grass fed ground beef cooked with chopped onions, rolled in lettuce leaves, 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese
I'm looking for a weight loss buddy too! Everyone here seems to genuine and nice. We're all fighting this fight together, so why not be there for eachother right? My name is Sam, I just turned 27. I have quite a bit more weight to lose then some of you, but I think if I have the right people cheering me on I can do it! I think I weight about 330 right now, but when I went to go weigh myself I discovered that this scale that I've had for like 10 years died on me lol so I am in the process of getting another one. Today is my official first day of trying a clean eating diet. I am slowly making small transitions so that the effects will last and I won't end up yo yo dieting again. Today I had some gluten free oatmeal with some cinnamon apples and rasins added and a mandrin orange. I'll have a snack of some grapes in an hour or so then lunch I packed a home made taco salad without the taco shell. It was a recipe I found online, I hope it's good
Halee- I LOVE the weightloss magic dust Sprinkle extra on me! LOL
Your breakfast sounds really great!!! If you're like me, I used to eat good all day until evening time. That's when I would probably eat 2,000 calories worth of food My advice to you is if you start feeling that way, just log on here and type. It's great therapy to write, and takes your mind off of food!
Clean eating I hear is really great. Processed foods make you want to eat more processed foods!!!
I myself am doing the slow-carb diet...i have banned all white sugar and flour...and potatoes. All of which I LOVE lol, but I have found they are trigger foods that make me eat and eat and eat non-stop.
You got it, extra weightloss magic dust for you LOL! Talk to you soon!
Halee, your menu yesterday was fantastic! Great job! And I'm so glad to see so many people want to join you in your efforts, no matter which plan they are using! Kudos to all!
If I may make a suggestion (so that the moderators don't end up moving your introduction thread, since it's quickly becoming a support group thread), why don't you all come up with a name for your new support group here, and then go to the Support Groups Forum: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/support-groups-122/ (scroll down a little until you see the "New Thread" button on the left) and create a new Support Group? Then you'll all be able to chat and post your progress and menus, etc., and keep up the great support for each other! I'm so happy to see so many motivated people here and I wish you all the best!
