Red face Lot of weight to loose, looking for support

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this website and forum and wanted to seek support and help. I have been an obese girl my whole life. I feel like I've been on every diet known to man and have more fails than I can count. I just turned 27 years old and I really need to make a change. I am looking for the support I know I'm going to need if I want to successfully get healthy and lose weight. I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) which makes it a little difficult to lose weight because my hormones are so out of whack but I'm not going to let that stop me. I am married (my husband is also overweight) and we have no kids. I want to get healthy and hopefully inspire my husband to jump on the bandwagon too because I worry about him a lot. Heart attacks run in his family at a young age and I don't want to see that happen to him, he is turning 33 in February. We also want to have children and our weight and other health problems I feel are in the way of that happening. It's hard for me to get support from family or friends because they aren't as overweight as I am and can't understand how hard it can be when you've dealt with this your whole life. They try to be supportive but they are also right there to tell me what I've done wrong which makes it harder to talk to them. I don't mind the tough love because we all need it every once in awhile but that isn't exactly what they're doing.

Any who! My current weight I think is about 330 lbs, I just discovered my really old scale has finally died on me lol so I will be purchasing another one soon so I can get an accurate weight. I'd like to weigh around 160 lbs or so but I'm mainly focusing on getting healthy and don't want to get discouraged if I don't make a certain weight. I'm looking for friends that can be on this journey together and to be there to help one another when times get tough. From what I can tell I am at the right place! I have a hard times being motivated when it comes to exercising because I get discouraged if I can't do it for very long so hopefully there's someone out there that has some great tips and can help kick my butt when I need it.

Sorry this is so long but I can't wait to meet new friends!

Welcome to 3FC! If you go over to the 300+ club forum, you'll find a lot of us that have a longer road to wellness. But feel free to search the whole site.

I like your focus on getting healthy rather than getting skinny. Skinny is not the definition of optimum health! A healthy person eats nourishing food, gets plenty of sleep every night, drinks lots of water, exercises and stays active. A healthy person also has and maintains a good social life and has friends that support their goals. That's what you're shooting for.

As for exercise, start with what you can do, what you can do regularly at least three to four times a week and find what you really enjoy doing. Don't worry about not being able to do it for very long. That will come with time.

As for that scale, that's only one sort of measurement to rely on. Get yourself a good tape measure too. Because there will be days, or even weeks and months, when that scale doesn't seem to want to budge and you're really discouraged, but you find it odd that your jeans are getting looser. So tracking your measurements helps a lot with motivation too.

And finally, don't apologize for "long" posts. You write what you need to write. This is a place for sharing!

See ya round the forums!

Welcome! I know when I started it was so overwhelming to think of all the hard work ahead and wondering if I could and would do it. There are some amazing people on this forum that changed my life and I can't thank them enough. You can do it too and the support you receive here will be nothing like you ever experienced before.

Good luck and know you aren't alone. Small changes in your diet and starting some exercise will literally start the weightloss process and it's all downward from there. I can't wait to read your updates.

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I am really having a great time here so far and everyone is so nice. I know I have a long road ahead of me but to see everyone at different parts of their journey keeps me hopeful that I can do this if I put my mind to it

I just wanted to say hi and welcome! I was at my highest weight about 10 years ago and that's around the time I first came to this forum (under a different account). It was an invaluable tool in helping me find the motivation to get started. I've come and gone a few times since then, typically losing 30-40 pounds a go (it adds up!), and found I'm most successful when I'm avidly reading and at least occasionally posting. For me, staying involved here is a way to stay aware and accountable, plus it's an enormous help to just not feel alone with my weight issues! There are so many to relate to here, and a lot of great advice from experienced losers.

Good luck with everything!

Hi, my name is Kristie and my starting wt is 438.4 lbs. I am right there with you. I have been over wt since like 5 yrs old. I have had my thyroid removed due to cancer, which I am free of; in 2010 and ballooned up to my current wt. I lost 100 lbs over a yr ago and then went back to school for nursing and put it all back on. It sucks being FAT!! and yes I use that word because that is what I am. Not pleasingly plump, not fluffy, not heavy......i am FAT!!! That 3 letter awful word. I hate my body. Every morbidly obese ounce/lb of it. I cannot stand to even look at myself; except my face in a mirror. And yes I know what people will think... "If you hate the fat then y not do something about it??" Well, duh....I have been trying since the start of my hs yrs to do so; and ta da....i have failed. So here I am again; starting over. I have considered and was taking part in the classes for the wt loss surgery. But that didn't pan out....insurance reasons. So.....that's me. Pretty much sums up that last 34 yrs of my fat existence. (i am 39 but 5 yrs fat free Good luck to you and maybe we can chit chat and encourage each other. I am on FB, Yahoo, etc...

It's so nice to meet all of you! Megan so cool you live kinda close!! Kristie, I am so happy that you have beat thyroid cancer!! I had a friend who had it in hs and she did suffer weight gain because of the loss of hers. I haven't spoken to her in a very long time but I hear she has lost a ton of weight. It is going to be hard for us to lose weight but we can do it!! I am already feeling uplifted with joy from you all and its nice to know I'm not alone. I am going to try and post something every day in a thread somewhere so I can keep account of myself and feel like I can move mountains with the help of you guys. I'm going shopping later this afternoon to buy some snacks and stuff to make some good lunch meals for work next week and see how it goes!!
