Default Hello!

Instead of lurking, I've decided to join this community and share in my struggle and success toward a healthier lifestyle. I'm 38 years old, no kids, have lived with my partner for almost ten years and am content in my profession. I've been at this (i.e., weight loss) for over a year now. I lost over 20 pounds last year and have held steady for the most part.

However, recently I was diagnosed with pre-hypertension, whatever that means; my blood pressure is either where it should be or it isn't! I'm a big girl (no pun intended) and can handle the truth! I think some of these descriptors aren't helpful and might lead to false beliefs about one's health one way or another -- more on that some other time. The important point is with this warning signal from my body, I'm ready to revamp my motivation and think I will find kindred spirits here.

I started running last November and just this month, I have opted for less meat in my diet. As it stands, I haven't had meat for the past two weeks but have consumed many good veggies and fruit, tofu, beans, and to ruin the wonderfulness of my list, a few beers. Yes, I like to drink beer and wine -- this is (sometimes) my biggest struggle as I love good drink.

At any rate, I just wanted to say "hey!" and look forward to becoming part of what appears to be a friendly community.

Welcome quiet dissent,
Hypertension is not good but you exercising and cutting out some meats will be helpful. Make sure you are watching your sodium content. If you keep it under 2000mg a day it would be good. Also check to see if your doctor is okay with you taking a cinnamon supplement. That improves circulation which in turn helps improve BP. I was borderline with 90 diastolic. I take the cinnamon 2x's a day and have lost 28lbs. I also am walking. My BP the other day was 110/80 so I was quite pleased. Meditation can help with it as well.
