New and motivated to lose 50lbs!

  • Hi everyone! It's my first time posting here, but I am not new to this forum. I've read posts to get motivated, but previously I lacked the determination to actually lose the weight.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a couple months ago, and my doctor said it explained why I suddenly gained 20lbs in the period of three months. I was depressed and mad that I couldn't lose the weight I had so quickly put on. I asked for medicine, however my doctor said that my thyroid levels would be over if I were to take the lowest dosage of thyroid medication.

Now I am determined to shake that weight off myself. I've been watching what I've eaten, and banned fast food from my diet. I only drink water or tea, and have done great with adding fruits and veggies to my diet. For exercise, I've been playing Dance Central on the XBOX Kinect and it was a WORKOUT! And today I started Insanity!

I know this is just an intro, but I want to post these so I can continue to motivate myself to lose 50lbs by next year. I saw the bottom photo of me and almost cried...I couldn't believe that I was so big compared to what I (thought) I was.

I am 5'2", and just last year weighed in at 130. Now I am tipping at 180lbs and NEED to lose it for my health. Not only do I have a family history of thyroid problems, but heart problems and diabetes run rampant in my family and I want to avoid it altogether! So here's to the start of a new lifestyle!

    Thank you everyone!

  • Hello and

    Glad you are getting started.

I understand about thyroid problems... I had a tumor so had half my thyroid and one parathyroid removed. Just sharing that to encourage you and let you know that yes, it makes it a bit harder but it can be done! And you can do it!!
  • Welcome to the forum!
  • I have to say you look beautiful in BOTH pictures. I understand having something working against you; I am on a medication that is gonna make it hard for me to lose. I just joined the forum a few days ago. If you want to read my intro it's called "Not depressed anymore. time to take it off." nice to meet you!
