Default 150 pound journey ahead

I've been heavy my whole life, as were both of my parents. I'm finally putting my foot down and am really going for this partially just to make myself feel better, and partially because I want less of a chance to get the health problems that seem to run in my family.

At my heaviest I got up to about 317, but have been able to get back down to a steady 310. My goal is to eventually get down to the 160 that I've been advised medically, but really for my height that number kind of scares me and I might stop a bit higher, around 180. We'll see when I get there.

For now planning on just calorie counting and getting back to exercising, which will for now be walking on my lunch break, and around the grounds of my apartment complex. I may try to get back into a dance class of sorts or a gym membership after my wedding next month...when I have time and money again.

I look forward to hopefully finding support here and that I will continue to find inspiration from all of the success of those of you who have reached their goals.

Welcome, and congrats on your upcoming wedding! I was in a very similar spot to you in June, so I know how you feel! But if I can do it so can you. And don't let anyone convince you that walking isn't good exercise!

Hey geminiswede welcome here to the forum!

I am the same height as you are and I can totally relate to the "scary" number. I chose my goalweight by BMI and was really frightened when I saw: Oh have to be 150 lbs for this BMI
I have never been this light in my entire adult life.
But we can do it!

As we are the same height and have about the same goal, maybe you would like to be weightloss buddies? I find it tremendously helpful to have someone to talk to, who is going to the same stuff you do.

Also congrats on your wedding! I hope you have a wonderful day!

Hey! I started pretty close to where you are now, though my ultimate journey is 156lbs - I understand completely how overwhelming that sounds! I'm only 13lbs down, but I already feel accomplished because I've hit my first 10lbs lost. I'm finding it easier to take it 10lbs at a time instead of looking at the big picture, if you celebrate the smaller goals it doesn't feel so hopeless! You definitely came to the right place for support. 3FC and the amazing people here are lifesavers

Hey Geminiswede. I am on the exact same page. I'm not 5'11" (I wish!), but I have 150 to lose EXACTLY. I have never been small- the smallest I have ever been was a size 14 when I was 11, and I've done Weight Watchers just about a million times. I never lose more than a few pounds, and then I get upset that everyone around me is having great success and I'm not... so then I quit. My mom and I both weighed 200-ish pounds about 11 years ago, and we went on weight watchers together, ate the same things, and worked out together- she lost 80 lbs, and I lost 6. WTF?!?

Anyhow, all that to say that I want to lose this weight so badly, but I'm scared of the failure... but even more scared of what will happen if I continue like I am. I get you.

Holla at a sista' if you need to vent!
