Red face Hello Everyone!

Hi Everyone!

I stumbled across this forum today, and though I am already on my way to goal and have a good start, it's never too late to add some new resources and meet some new friends!

I am 47 years old and have struggled with weight gain most of my adult life. I was very skinny as a kid, but it's been a steady climb since my 20s, most markedly after my children in my early 30s. I have tried oh so many things, bought so many books and gimmicky devices to no avail. Like many others, I would lose a little, then gain it all back and more.

I lost both of my parents within 14 months of each other; my Dad who was also heavy all his life, was lost to Type 2 diabetes and every complication possible. I watched him go from the strongest and most able person ever, to a weak, blind, sickly man. He was chained to a kidney dialysis machine 3 times a week for the last 6 years of his life. At the end, he needed help to eat and use the bathroom.. and hated every minute of it. As much as it hurts to think or say this, for him, death was a relief. The scary thing is that genetically, I take much more after him than my mother, who was always a tiny little thing. My Dad worked hard all his life, owned his own business, made a life out of very poor and humble beginnings. He worked so hard that he was able to retire early, and almost immediately diabetes took over his life. He was never able to do the things he wanted to do.. and I have vowed that I would not follow that same path.

So once they were both gone, I took all of my inheritance and bought a family business, that happens to be a very physical type of business, but one I love and my Dad would have loved it as well. In the first year, I found out that at 285 pounds (5' 4" BTW) I was not fit enough to do the work required.

Luckily for me, our plan included a several year transition out of the traditional work force for me before going full time on our own business and I decided to take the opportunity to not only prepare myself for the years ahead, but also to do everything possible to get fit and healthy so my kids wouldn't watch me fade away the way I did my Dad.

I started on September 27, 2011 and since have lost almost 50 pounds! Today I sit at 238, with an ultimate goal of 150, so still quite a way to go. But I already feel better physically and emotionally, and look better too. I will try to find some pictures to post.

So that's my story and I look forward to sharing with you all along the way.. and learning about you too.

CA Moose
