Default Hey Everyone:)

Hi everyone!
I'm brand new here to 3fatchicks, about a week into my diet. Unlike most of you I have never dieted before. I weigh around 210 right now and would ideally like to get down to 140 or 130 (I'm 5'3"), though I know I have a long way to go.
I have two main questions as of right now that I'm hoping someone can help with! First off, I'm 18 and a freshman at a small Ivy League school... as you can imagine, I don't have too much extra time on my hands. The dieting part seems to be fine, but even with good time management its hard to exercise more than a half hour daily. Also, given my height and weight, I'm a little confused as to where I should begin in terms of calories. I have been eating 1200 calories a day, but I hear this may not be enough for someone my size. Additionally, I am working out on either the elliptical or treadmill for 20-30 minutes a day.

HI! Welcome to 3FC!

My suggestion is this: go to the FDA approved site for healthy eating. I'm not sure if i can post urls, so if not sorry mods! but the url is myplate.gov. You enter your height and weight and how active you are, and it'll give you detailed information. It's how I started mine and I know I'm within my limits.

As for working out: Professionals say that 30 minutes 5x a week is the minimum to see results (as told by my personal trainer). But in my opinion a workout is a workout, and everything helps.
