Finally getting past the "excuses"
I used to be normal weight until 6 year ago. I used to be really active until I had a knee injury, turning myself into a couch potato. But recently finally got past that mental barrier that was allowing myself to cater to what my brain categorized as a lifelong impairment rather that do something about it. It got to the point that even one step hurt so I avoided stairs unless absolutely necessary and I couldn't walk even a km without pain in my knee, hip and feet.
But not any more. A few months ago, something just clicked and I HAD to do something about it. I looked up exercises for strengthening knees and started to do them as best as I could. Fast forward to a few weeks ago and I found myself going up and down stairs and only feeling a little pain. I then introduced some daily exercise videos to my activities because I felt I could actually do (most) of them without hurting myself. Today, I actually caught myself running up and down the stairs as I would have pre-injury with zero pain! (yay NSV!)
I joined this board little while ago and have been a lurker, but I figured I should introduce myself in case I get out of that lurker mode.
Thanks to everyone for their advice and stories that they have offered here. This place is really motivating and I love reading about everyone's successes, big and small.
