JOHN ~ glad you found us here; this is a very supportive place with lots of great people & advice.
Firstly, I would caution a man not to cut his calories too low; that could be a grave error -- the body can & will panic and refuse to let the weight go.
Second, I would recommend LIFTING WEIGHTS every other day; find a good place or source so you can do it right (at a gym or at home; get advice from a professional trainer to get started). I do handbells EOD and I can really see my arms have slimmed down; and this activity raises your metabolic rate around the clock.
I also do toning exercises daily; and nothing beats walking, so keep that up. To stave off the hunger issue, fill up on things like soup and a salad before eating your main entrees, esp for lunch and dinner. For breakfast, oatmeal or other whole grain cereal & fruit are a great option for men; having an egg & 1 slice of whole grain toast with it now & then for protein too (I've tried the turkey bacon and like it).
TIP: have a large breakfast, a medium-sized lunch, and smaller dinner (with lots of soup, salad, and veggies). You can have small snacks in between meals; focus on protein first though.
Give special attention to lean meats, salads, soups, veggies (at least 2 servings), dairy (if you can tolerate it), fruit, and whole grain carbs in moderation -- simple, but effective really.
There is a men's forum here that you can post in, but you are not limited by that; and the ladies have so much good advice that they can share with you too ... good luck!

John, if you want exercise to have a bearing on your weight loss, it takes an hour a day minimum 6 days a week. Congratulations on making a start, just keep increasing it a little at the time. We also need strength training as well as aerobic/cardio. That builds muscle and eliminates fat.
Good luck on your journey. As you can see from my stats, I was nearly your weight when I started getting healthy. Weigh and measure portions until you can accurately judge them.
... I agree whole-heartedly!
