Hi there! I'm 21, 5'5" and have been going to the gym for a month now. I've lost 13 pounds from my starting weight, and I'm at 287 currently. I'm trying to decide what a healthy goal weight would be. I'm thinking about 135 to 140, but bmi says I should be 120. Any thoughts? Thanks! (:
Heyy!
I'm the same age and exact height as you are. I'm also a newbie here, so thought I'd just give you a congrats on the weight loss(as I have yet to get the ball rollin') and keep at it! I'm trying to get to 150. I'm currently 220. I envy you for your improvements
Pick a goal weight you feel is sustainable...and that goal weight may change as you continue to lose! Could go up a little bit, could go down. It honestly doesn't matter much until you get closer to it =)
BMI is nothing more than a glorified height/weight chart and takes nothing about the individual person into account.
Congratulations on the great changes you've made so far! Keep at it!

Wow! Congratulations first off on the 13 pound shred! That's awesome! Secondly, I suggest maybe do a small goal and then set your long term goal afterwords?? My first goal is to get to 200lbs. According to my BMI I should be in my 140's or lower I believe? That doesn't sound good to me because I cannot visualize my larger frame (and my mom is the same build, and she got to 180 and looked FABULOUS!) being 140 or under. If you set a smaller goal, and like your progress try making small goals and see where you feel most comfortable at. I hope that makes some sense. I wish you the best of luck.
My bmi says I should be a lot smaller that I think I could ever be! I think it's best to set a goal you feel is acheivable and once you get to it, you can always make new goals!
Welcome!:
