Fresno - I had a workout planned at the gym last night but it just didn't go right. I found myself distracted and didn't really feel like I was getting anything done. Does anyone have any really good workout regimes with weights machines / free weights?

Hope you're feeling less stressed and keeping on track with your food. Keep going!

HiltonHead0704 05-24-2011 10:12 AM

Hi all! Hope everyone was a little better than I was this weekend. I just love wine! It gets me into trouble, especially at a 9-course wedding. But it was delicious, so I am starting the week with more clean eating and hoping on scale day on Friday another pound (or 2) might be gone (forever?). Anyone else anticipating being a little off their plans this weekend? Trying to have some self control!

TurboMammoth 05-24-2011 11:10 AM

themilesawaygirl, for you weight routine, I discovered that swimming is doing wonderful things to my arms (and it's much more fun than lifting weights héhé!)

I'll definitely be off the plan this weekend :( I hope I'll manage to loose a bit until friday so I'll stress less during the weekend!

themilesawaygirl 05-24-2011 11:32 AM

Turbo - I really like swimming too, but it's really awkward for me to get to a pool (I have to travel an extra half hour on my hour long commute!). Also, I count swimming as cardio rather than strength training. The gym, however, is just a 5 min walk from work and I quite enjoy a workout but I'm having difficulties finding a routine that works.

Good luck sticking to plan this week. I've got a BBQ at the weekend too, so I know I'll be drinking and eating more than I should. I'll try to keep control over it though, not drinking too much and making healthier choices.

Hi ladies!

Thanks for the continued support! :) I am starting to feel slightly less stressed and settle into a more normal routine (for now) :)

Today's menu plan looks a lot like yesterday's did, lol...though tonight we'll be doing our usual splitting of a veggie sub from Subway. For dinner last night I had two vegan burritos. (I'd have normally eaten only one. I'm telling you, I've been just insatiably hungry.) :(

Thinking about taking a road trip to Joplin this weekend to transport some supplies. Poor people! :(

What are you all up to today? :)

P.S. Red Wings and Habs in the finale = perfect! :)

TurboMammoth 05-24-2011 02:43 PM

What a perfect fantasy stanley cup finale!

Back to work/school today! Bad luck, my lunch fell on the floor when I was trying to get it out from the microwave LOL I had to go to the cafeteria..Now that I started a diet, everything that I did not cook myself scares me to death! But because my school is in a hospital, I managed to find a healthy tortilla wrap - thaï chicken :) (... my lunch wasn't THAT good anyway LOL!)

themilesawaygirl : I also count swimming into cardio, but I'm feeling much stronger with my arms since I got back to it :) I had a good weight lifting routine back when I was going to a gym, it was like 5-6 stations but I don't think I can translate their names in english :( Maybe it would the cost of getting a trainer for like 1 hour, so you can build a program fit to what you want. That's what I did :)

let me just tell on myself now.

my cycle started and i will not be held responsible for what i eat!!! im 35 and my body knows that the baby making door is starting to close a little. never in life have my hormones been so crazy, lol.

i dont have kids and would like to get the extra weight off and prance around for a few years before i get re-fat with baby weight!!

anywho, today's naughty food was the individual serving sized bag of reeses peanut butter cups. this size is new and i really like it. prior to that, i had fruits and salads.

Hi friends!

Happy Wednesday!

I am unsure of my present weight, but I can tell you that my stomach is coming back in full force. :(
I've GOT to get motivated. I've been an emotional eater lately! I've got to stop it. It's like there's so much stress, I'm eating just to comfort myself, even when I know I'm not hungry. It's a terrible cycle, and I don't know how to get past it. I really want to be in a sleeveless dress for my birthday (Sept) this year, but at this rate, I'll be lucky to be down five pounds by then. Boo hoo. lol

themilesawaygirl 05-25-2011 11:38 AM

Fresno Don't get disheartened hun, I know how tough it must be to cope with stress and comfort eating, but don't give up! Post here whenever you need support and you can get through this. Without meaning to preach to the converted, it is well and truly proven that exercise reduces stress. Even a 20 minute walk in the fresh air does all sorts of good things to your brain (and body!) which will help lower stress levels, even if you don't think it will. Grab yourself a yummy fruit smoothie too, or something tasty that's also really healthy. You'll immediately feel a little bit better about yourself eating right and sometimes that's all it takes. Keep going, you can do it!

Turbo Try the names of the machines in French, I might have half an idea what they do! Good idea with the trainer though, I think my gym even offers one session for free, might see if I can do that. Thanks! Well done on the run and super-healthy lunch. Keep at it!

Hiltonhead Oh how I know your struggle with the wine! Well done starting the week fresh though, hope it's going well for you!

Fluffyfashionista If a pack of reese's was your only naughty food then don't beat yourself up too much! I had a few too many bits yesterday but avoided a binge. (I started my cycle this week too). Good luck staying in control :)

I do! I have 31 lbs to lose and I'm hoping to lose it in 4 months on IP.

TurboMammoth 05-25-2011 11:57 AM

fresno : hold on, you can do it! Try to relax : it been a rough period on the stress level, why don't you go get a massage or something, to start fresh and new? And the 20 minutes walk is a really good idea too! we're all there for you!

themilesawaygirl : reading your post, I realized I even had trouble to find the names in french LOL but I can try to describes them.

My weight program had : (they wore almost all on machines)
-some really basic leg press (3x 15-20 press)
-one that you are sitting on something (back against the chair) and you push two poles in front of you, then 9the harder part) you bring them back to you slowly, holding the weight, until your arms are at a 90 angle for your forearms (this one was KILLING me, really usefull), I think it was good for the shoulder, the arms and the back)
-you're sitting and you pull handles with weights, 3x 15-20.
- sit up, but lying on a bench, with your shoulders/neck not touching the bench
-the last one is really awkard to describe : I was lying on my stomach on the machine and my legs were one a mooving part and I had to pull my legs toward my stomach with the weight that I had choose to the mooving part... it is SO SHADY but that's the best I can describe ahaha! (this on were cool for the abs and upper legs)

I met a trainer at the gym (it was free for me too) and he built my program considering what I wanted to do and the results I wanted to obtain :) I highly suggest it! (plus, he'll probably describe the machines way better that I do LOL)

fresno26 05-25-2011 12:26 PM

Aww! You're all so good to me! :) Thank you so much for the kind words!

Exercise does sound really good. (If it would stop raining, lol) -- No excuses, though. I have a gym membership that's valid in all weather. ;) Plus! All of my things are packed, so I don't have free weights or DVD's available anyway. So if I'm going to work out, the gym is basically my only option. I will get there Saturday and Sunday, for sure! Tonight we'll be looking at more houses (I'm pretty sure we've seen every house for sale in a 53-mile radius at this point, lol)
so I should at least burn a few calories from walking around. haha

A massage sounds like a great idea! I had one scheduled last week but the place canceled last minute. I think I should try to reschedule! :) My back has been killing me lately.

I guess when I look at it, I've really only been doing this comfort eating for a couple of weeks. If I can get a grip, I can hopefully avoid having TOO much gain from it.

I guess what I need to realize is that my eating to 'feel better' does not end up making me feel better at all. It may 'comfort me' a little, but the guilt definitely outweighs any comfort, and I know I'll be mad at myself in the long run for allowing any major setbacks to happen. So, somehow I've just got to be stronger than I have been. I hate knowing that I had REALLY good willpower not long ago...but it's gone MIA! LOL How on earth do I get it back?

HiltonHead0704 05-25-2011 12:32 PM

Hi All!

themiesawaygirl: You are totally inspiring! But, everytime I see your picutres I crave potato chips - hahah.

fresno and fluffyfashionista: I think we are all struggling with the will thing. I am wondering what will befall me on Friday when I weigh in (or Thursday if I get impatient). Sometimes some weight gain encourages me to kick it into high gear. Sometimes weight loss does too, so I think being a weekly weigher is not always the most effective for me.

fresno26 05-25-2011 12:46 PM

Hilton Head - Exactly! I do the same thing. A weight loss makes me think, Yeah....it's working! And then with that newly-found confidence, I keep it up.. lol
A weight GAIN makes me think, "OK Body...you ****ing piece of ****....I guess you're going to work even harder, since you're being a stubborn little *****. Is that what you need? More vegetables and lots of running? FINE! LOL I'm basically at war with myself. It's kind of hilarious. :) I just start to laugh it off and stop paying attention to the scale. (which has been easier since I've packed it away, lol) There is NO way I can work my buns off for days and have a weight gain...so I try to be patient and let things adjust for a few days, then it usually shows a more accurate reading.

Just kind of driving myself crazy lately. :) Can't wait to get back into a normal routine in life!
