Talking Finally decided to make a life change

Hi all, I'm Mel, 28 from NY. Been heavy all my life. Family is semi overweight; I unfortunately am the biggest one. I've always been happy with myself, played softball and bowled in HS and college even at my size (was 275 then). Now I am a few years away from 30 and at my heaviest. I decided I am going to try and make a change in myself. The long term goal is to lose 150 pounds by summer 2012. Although I am still a strong and confidant woman, I am starting to feel the effects of my weight. My joints and back hurt constantly and am worried about the possible diseases I may get. My best friend asked me to be the maid of honor at her wedding in July so my short term goal is to lose 50 pounds by then. I started my 1200 calorie and 5 day a week exercise regime on March 1st and at today’s date have lost 22 pounds so far.

I look forward to making new friends like minded and tracking my progress here. Thanks for listening to my ramble all!

Good for you! I just joined this forum today because I need the extra support to get going and keep going. I am 27 and I too have been calorie counting so I know how difficult it can be. It sounds like you are already on the right track to being successful! Keep up the great work and you will definitely reach your goal. You have already inspired me!

Hey Melberry:
I'm new to this board as well, and excited because this seems like such a supportive group.
I too have started to notice back pain and other aches in my body which I am sure are from my gaining 30 pounds in the past couple years. It's definitely eye-opening.
Congratulations on already losing 22 pounds ! Best of luck to you
