Post New and Determined to get in shape this year

Hello. I took my first Zumba class last night with my daughters and just about died, but decided to go every day during January while on winter break from school. I am also thinking of trying the "belly fat diet" because that is my trouble spot. Meanwhile My husband and son have been sick since Christmas and really trying to not catch it! Hope everyone has a great day! Off to learn more about the belly fat program.

Welcome to 3FC! There is a lot of info and support here.

It sounds like you had fun at the Zumba class. I've considered ordering the DVD's. Do you think someone with a mildly bum knee could handle it?

Best of success to you as you acheive your goals here.

Good luck with zumba! I'm waiting for my dvd's to arrive so I can start it too. I'm too uncoordinated to venture to a class, I'd be so clumsy!

Default Zumba wishes

Thanks for your replies. Well I definitely needed to modify some of the jumping because about halfway through because I was out of breath and my ankles were starting to feel sore. Maybe check out a free class and see if you can modify the moves enough so there is no knee pain. I am meeting my daughter there again tonight with a different instructor. Really I need to stick to something so I can improve my fitness level. In the past nothing has been enough to keep me motivated for very long. Is there anyone else who is starting Zumba for the first time or is having great results from doing Zumba? I see the commercials and it seems too good to be true.........

Just a quick comment on this - I find that relying on motivation ALWAYS lets me down. I was always motivated at the start of any new program, but then results would slow, or I'd be tired, or I'd be stressed, and that motivation would fade out. And I'd quit because I thought I needed to be motivated to keep going.

What I found is that I need to keep going regardless of whether I feel motivated or not. So I made a commitment. I told myself that, no matter what, I was going to try my best to stay on plan. And that if I DID fall off plan, I'd get right back on at my next opportunity.

When I did have motivation, it was great and made things easier. But when I wasn't motivated, I did it anyway, even though I didn't necessarily want to. I made bargains with myself, like "Just exercise for 20 minutes, and if you still want to quit then, you can", knowing that once I got started I'd keep going. The best part of this approach was that by sticking to my plan, I ended up seeing results and feeling better, which was motivating and made it that much easier to keep going.

Post Update

Hi, thanks for the words of wisdom. I just finished my second nite of Zumba and the music was better tonight...more hip hop! My arms are a little sore in a good way. Still modified some of the jumping but not as short of breath as yesterday. I haven't weighed myself but did take a few measurements that I will check only at the end of the month. Does anyone else new to Zumba? I would love a buddy.
