Hi. This site was recommended to me by someone who is a dear friend of mine cause she has found a weath of infomation and support for her weight loss needs and she thought it would help me out. And yes I've heard about 3 Fat Chicks but I though this site was only for women. But after looking around and seeing all the support that everyone gets here I'm glad to be apart of this.
I started out my weight loss journey in late May of 2009 when I weighed 450 lbs. Yeah I've always been a big guy ever since I left the Navy for good back in 1992 but one day I was out on a loading dock and just happen to step on the scale. I saw 450 and thought it was a joke. I mean I remember hoping on scales and they'd say 370 or 385 but i'd always figured I could lose it. Ha I was kidding myself because my health was rapidly deteriating to point where I could barely walk a block without being winded. But I finally found a way to stay engaged with keeping up with my weight loss by logging my food and exercise on a website called fatsecret.com. In a little over a year I've loss 88 pounds but I have a long way to go but I think being is going to help me keep my focus and hopefully achieve and maintain my weight losss goal. And of course I want to help everyone else so I'm ready to help in any way I can.
Congratulations on your weight-loss. You may have a long way to go but you have come a long way. 88 lbs. is a huge life changing accomplishment. Thanks for sharing.
Welcome!! You have done an amazing job so far! 88 lbs, when I lose that much I will probably shout it from the rooftops. lol Your an inspiration already mister. Can't wait to hear more from you.
I read your message and congratulations on doing great towards reaching your goals.
You mentioned that you gained a lot after exiting the Navy years ago. The same thing happened to me after I got out of the U.S. Army just a few years before you were discharged from the Navy! One good thing about the Army was that in my unit we used to have to get up and run 5 days a week -- once you're out of the service and no one's forcing you to exercise it can get all too easy to get lazy and avoid working out. The result is that I recently got way too close to weighing 350 lbs., which was the motivation for me to "get with the program" (as they say in the Army) and GET IN SHAPE!
No question that the title of this site makes it sound like it's for chicks only, but there are a bunch of us guys here and there. Look around and you're likely to find a group that you feel comfortably posting with on a daily basis.
Do you have an eating plan and an exercise plan yet?
