Default Hey there, everyone!

(Reposted from the 20-something subforum)

I'm a 20 year old College student, majoring in Illustration. The past 5 years of my life have been pretty hectic and I ended up letting myself get way out of shape. I've made efforts in the past to lose the weight, but I find that I quickly get discouraged if I don't see results when most people would.

The reason that I've managed to pull myself up again to try and lose the weight is because I ended up getting an explanation why losing the weight was so extraordinarily difficult for me. A couple of months ago I was diagnosed with PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) and my doctor explained to me that one of the side effects is something along the lines of insulin with diabetics. So, my doctor put me on Metformin and now I'm actually losing weight like a normal person! I still have a eat healthy and exercise just like everyone else, but it just took away my lack of weight loss that I had been experiencing for a long time.

I'm so insanely excited because I can actually see my stomach, arms and legs getting smaller. But, anyway, I've joined up because I tend to get more motivated when I know I have other people trying to lose weight with me. So, here's to motivation!

Hi there,

I'm currently waiting for test results to come back as I had a blood test to check my thyroid last week... it seems no matter what I do, I just don't shift the weight, or even stay the same weight and it is very disheartening when you have to literally starve yourself to lose weight. If you don't mind me asking, how did your doctor diagnose your condition?

Well, after having extremely irregular periods all my life and some other PCOS symptoms, they ended up doing an ultrasound of my ovaries, which apparently are very clearly covered in a bunch of little cysts.

I suggest asking for an ultrasound, if you can. It's a little unpleasant, but it's nice to get some answers.

Also, thanks for the warms welcomes, everyone.

Hi Paramedic! Congratulations on your weight loss! I too have PCOS and was diagnosed in 1997. It is a struggle to lose weight I know. I've never been put on Metformin, but I asked about it. They made it seem as if a lot of people get sick from it , so I declined. It is awesome that it is working with you! Keep up the good work! There is a forum here for those of us with PCOS as well. Here is the link: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/pcos...ce-support-70/

Ohh, CLM, thanks for the link! I didn't even know this site had a section for women with PCOS. It'll be nice to talk to people who deal with the same kinds of stuff.
