Raise your hand if you ever find yourself opening your fridge every 10 minutes...
I have seriously become an awful, out-of-control snacker. Especially late at night. After a few attempts at trying to stop (they all only lasted a few days) I thought maybe I'd do better if I had a little support. I found this site searching for "south beach without eggs" and was really pumped to find lots of awesome ideas.
I'm gathering recipes, but my prepared meals often mirror the low-carb, high-protein meals i'm finding. My big problem is carb-y snacks. I really can't get enough bread, pretzels, chips, etc. I think a lot of it stems from boredom & habit--not hunger. I'm not usually a tea drinker, but I've started having a cup of mint tea in the evening and it really helps cut down on the cravings. I've also been drinking seltzer instead of plain water.
If anyone has tips on curbing snacking (including non-food related activities) I'd love to hear them. Maybe I should take up needlepoint to keep my hands busy.
Hi sweetbabyjune and welcome, I am a snacker also. I like you love the pretzels and chips, not so much bread (salty stuff). I also find that my snacking comes on more when I have nothing to do. I must admit, I have really been doing well this go around. I have only had about 3 days where I have snacked like crazy. I kept within my portions but just had some of like three different snacks. My neighbor recommended putting my snacks in snack bags and have them ready so that when I want to snack I don't over do it. I also like to snack at night but have not done that in 21 days. I weigh in every morning and the thought of being a pound heavier would be very upsetting. Before my snack, I drink a water to hopefully help with the full feeling. For me to not snack at night, I go upstairs with 20 to 32 ounces of flavored water when my family goes up and I don't come back down. Just some things that I do that work sometimes, it is truly that that I keep faking myself out with again sometimes it works. Have a great day.
I do it too. I call it "banging cabinets" because of the noise they make.
The only thing that has ever worked is keeping the stuff out of the house. Now when I open the fridge, I have the options of a glass of milk or a salad for a snack. But I do bring a single serving of pretzels or chips home and I'll eat them with dinner.
As has been said on this board before, if you aren't hungry for a glass of milk, then you weren't really hungry. (I love this quote).
My solution doesn't solve the boredom problem, but it does solve the snacking problem.

My issue is my husband, he's tall and in my opinion thin, he says he's not thin. But he can eat a large bag of chips and then drink a liter pepsi with a pack of cookies then go to sleep. And he continues to buy all of these snacks. I have my own stuff but of course his looks so much better. My sons like to cook and bake so they made fries that were killing me tonight and then they go on the internet to print off things to bake. It smells so good in here. ughhhhh
But I've been strong, trying to keep using that good ole'
