Talking 2010 is a bright and shiny new opportunity!

Hello all,

My name is Malory and I just joined. I have struggled with weight loss since I gained weight my freshman year of college. For the past two spring semesters I have tried to lose weight by working out and counting calories, and it seems to work for about three months (I loose about 20 lbs) when I get stressed out by things around me (I'm in a sorority so there are lots of activities that keep me up late and stressed, greek week, spring sing, etc).
So I eat that fast food that I have tried so hard to give up. It's also hard living in the sorority house because our food is cooked for us. But I have made do for the past two times I have tried to lose weight so I know I can do it. Last spring I was loosing weight when wildfires swept through my family's neighborhood and destroyed my childhood home. I'm not making excuses for my falling off the wagon, but the stress from that situation was a huge part of it.
I've realized this semester that there's definitely something missing when I don't work out/eat healthy. I know I can DO it because I've done it before. But something I haven't tried is looking online for support. My sorority sisters are sometimes a great outlet to look to, but sometimes they all like to put their 2 cents on how to lose weight when I really just need to figure it out for myself. I am lucky enough to have access to our university's wellness center complete with unlimited fitness classes. I plan on REALLY doing this. One of my goals is to compete in a Miss Oklahoma qualifying pageant in November of 2010. I really think that I can get into swimsuit shape for this, and it's something that I've always wanted to do. In april, I also plan on running the 5K during the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, and auditioning for several summer musicals. I have always wanted to perform to the best of my abilities and this just seems like the perfect goal this year.
Wow! I didn't expect this to be so long, but that's me! I am looking forward to talking with you all!

Hi Malory - welcome to 3FC!!

Let me tell you, you have come to the right place girl! Your story sounds a lot like mine. I put on weight starting the summer before college, and now I'm 22 and just graduated. I tried to lose weight so many times over the past few years but, like you, activities always seemed to get the best of me! I've realized something huge though: nothing is more important than my health and well-being. Here's to never giving up again!!

This forum is amazing for tons of reason. You can find any answer to any question you ever had about diet and exercise and weight loss... and the support is great. I frequent the 20-something's pages (its very active). We'll all be here to celebrate the tiniest successes and to mope about those unwanted gains. But the key is to not let one step back get in the way of your next 3 steps forward, right?

Feel free to PM me (once you have private messaging abilities, i think it takes 20 days for newbies ) See you around!! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!

Thanks Jess! It looks we are a lot alike in several aspects. I look forward to getting involved in the forum and finding support! I will PM you when I get the chance and check out the 20-something board.

Hi Malory!
So many here have lost weight only to gain it back (and more) - I undertand the stress of the devastating fire - after Katrina hit I gained back all the weight I lost and am here to lose it again - we can do it - the support is here!

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated, inspired and entertained! There's also info and first hand advice on different eating plans and exercise to help choose the right ones for you and get through the ups and downs.

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here a few months myself, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of cheating or giving up.

So welcome - you 've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!

All the best - good luck with your goals,
Lee

Happy Holidays!
