48 here and forget the whole peri and post menopausal women can't lose weight. Hogwash. I'm closing in on 50 pounds lost.

Honestly, I'm finding it much EASIER to lose now than I did when I was younger. I'm more confident, have more experience tackling big projects, and am not so hung up about my appearance.

Most of weight loss is in the head and we're not just older, we're WISER.

Welcome aboard.

Default Never Too Late!

Hi Princess Grandma

I had lapband surgery when I was almos 60! I started at 256 lbs. I'm 5'4 1/2". I have lost 60 lbs so far. I work out at the gum 4 days a week. I have a personal trainer. And I am delighted that I did it. I feel wonderful! I can actually RUN around with my 2 year old granddaughter.

Yes, I have had challenges, and loose skin is one. But my general health was more important.

Write me and let me know if you did it

Rosemary

I used to have lots of trouble with portion control, now I have a motto on my fridge-

"You can always have more... Tomorrow! Wouldn't it be nice to look forward to having some of that deliciousness tomorrow, too? Save some!"

It really helps- and as an unexpected side effect, saves me tons of money on food!

Good luck!

Hi, I'm over 50 too, 61 to be exact. I post on the Golden Girls. I still think young and people say I look much younger than my years. BUT, once you get past 50 ladies, you just don't lose as quickly as you did when you were younger. Just a fact. And i like to communicate with people that understand that. It may take us longer, but it's totally doable.

Any one that is interested, please come over and join us. It's more fun when you have someone that understand that a 1/2 pound loss is a reason to celebrate!

I've found that "too late" is one of those things I tell myself to beat myself up. Oh no! It's too late! You'll always be fat! You're so old! Why try!

I love Martha Beck's books and she wrote about how those types of thoughts that hold us back. She calls that voice the "dragon." She talks about a lady who bought a little dragon brooch. When this lady has these distressing thoughts she remembers it is just the "dragon" and she nicely tells it "thanks for sharing. I'll take it from here".

I just love that metaphor for the way we sabotage ourselves - and the way we can stop it.

3FC is the best place I've ever found for diet support - that includes "in person" help! Good luck - you can do it!

I know things vary for women at different stages of their life but I think that some of the factors like skin elasticity could be compensated for, even so.

Exercise and maybe even frequent moisturizing with something rich like cocoa butter might mitigate this. I have a friend who said that using cocoa butter helped her with not getting any stretch marks on her belly when pregnant. I think if it helped with that, couldn't hurt to try it during dieting.

Just a thought.

It's never too late in any case!
