Unhappy Newbie 'Fat chick' having a really bad day!

Hi all, bit of background, I'm 37, married and have 1 son aged 8. HAve just found this forum as was taking my son swimming just now with my tall, size 8 sister to the local pool. Got there to find 2 mums from school watching their boys having a lesson, and a few other people I know. Got as far as the changing room, stripped off into my tent sized bathers and then caught sight of mounds of wobbly white flesh reflected back at me, stood next to my bronzed, lithe sister in a tiny bikini. Promptly burst into tears, left son with sister and have come back home feeling a disgusting failure - I failed myself and my son.

Joined a slimming club last night but with more than 5 stone to lose I don't know that I'll ever be able to get down to what I should weigh - feels like standing at the bottom of a mountain knowing I've got to get to the top and it's a bit overwhelming.

Sorry for the verbal blubbing but I'm feeling so sorry for myself but no-one in the family can relate - their idea of overwight is about 10lb's!

Next time I post I thread I'll be more cheerful, promise!

Welcome to 3FC. You've taken a great first step in your weight loss journey. You'll find tons of great tips, support, and advice on this site. Maybe setting mini-goals would be a good start. 2kg, 4kg, etc...

And I can totally relate to having skinny minnies for sisters. One is a 2-4 the other is 6-8. I'm an 18

Hi Jules!

Congrats on making the choice to change! I myself did the same about 3 days ago so I know what you mean when you think you'll never get there. In just 3 days I've learned alot from those who are here and I'm sure you will too!

Good luck!
Britt

You really, really need a hug right now!

It will get better. Decide how you're going to do it and go for it! I calorie count and use exercise videos, but there is a lot of information on this site to help you decide what methods of diet and exercise can best fit your lifestyle. Because that's what it's all about, it what works with your set of variables. But there is something for everyone if they want it badly enough. And don't look at the 70 lbs (I started with 60). Take it 5 to 10 at a time. I don't dare even think about the 30 I have left - I'm just focused on the next 4.

There is nothing worse than feeling you are letting down your child, or embarrassing them. That is a huge part of what got me motivated (my son is 5). I'm 42, and with the extra weight, I really didn't have the energy to keep up with him.

Lately I've been slacking because I feel much better at my current weight (I'm in the healthy range again), but his friend told me this weekend that my legs jiggled when I was putting on sunscreen. When I told her that was because I was fat, she said "Oh no Miss Julia. You're not fat. You're just chubby." Great . . . . back on the diet. 5 year olds are way too honest.
