Default Fell off the wagon...

I started posting here probably 4-5 months ago and felt really inspired, but then I lost all motivation... told myself things like "It's too hard" or "I have so much weight to lose, I'll never be able to do it". And sometimes I do still feel that way but I know I have to try or I'm going to die... and I don't want that.

It's so scary to feel like you have to face this road alone... I am sure many of you know that feeling. That's why I'm here... I need support or I will never be able to do it.

I honestly don't know how much I weigh. The last time I was weighed, I think it was 370, but that was 7 years ago. Who knows how much it is now.

One question I have is about exercise. I can be on my feet for less than 5 minutes and I start to get really bad pain in my back and knees. I don't know what kind of exercise to do... should I just do 5 minutes at a time till it doesn't hurt anymore, or is there some kind of low impact stuff I can do? I feel kind of lost.

I just want to thank everyone in advance for your replies. I am looking forward to getting healthy!

A great low impact exercise is swimming, but getting in a bathing suit in front of people can be really intimidating (I know I still have trouble wearing any form of bathing suit in public). Or maybe resistance bands that you can use sitting down? The best thing to do is talk to your doctor and maybe he can suggest some gentle exercises to help you get started, or refer you to a specialist personal trainer. Just know that you CAN do this and posting on here is the first step on your journey. Good luck and go for it!!!

honestly, I'm in the same boat at the moment. I can physically be up and around and I can walk alright...but I've had so many surgeries on my ankle and injured my knees so many times that what i see as "exercise" is extremely painful for me. One thing that I've found...the biggest part of weight loss is the change in diet. I've lost all the weight i've lost so far without exercising...and it's only been a little over a month. If right now you can't really exercise, don't get discouraged. Just try to eat the best that you can, and you'll see a difference in no time....thats the way I think about it anyways. I guess I hope if I lose more weight, then I'll be able to exercise more because my body won't have to hold up as much weight...so it will be less stressful on my joints.

YOU CAN do this! It seems impossible now, but nothing is ever impossible.

Also, resistance bands are one of the best things EVER. With resistance bands, there are exercises you can do sitting down and laying down and you don't have to be up running around. I actually ran out and bought a few yesterday, and I'm so glad that I did.

Something else you could try, getting a couple of free weights or those weights that strap around your ankles. I know weight training isn't the same as cardio...but it's something you can do sitting down, and right now it seems like what you need is to strengthen your muscles so when you DO go walk around it doesn't hurt your joints so much...at least that's my plan. lol

Good luck with everything =D

I might suggest going steady, increasing the time slowly but sure, and consulting professionals before exercising. Going all out might exert you and your body might not be used to it and it will be uncomfortable..

But don't get down! You can do it.

I wish you all the best!

Thank you all so much for your responses & advice. I'm going to just start slowly & do what I can. I know that if I do that, my body will get stronger and I'll be able to do more! And I've already been going through the recipes section and copying down some that look good to me!

This place is amazing. Everyone is so caring & supportive!

I have found that it doesn't matter if I exercise all at once, or several times throughout the day.

Thus, don't push too hard - just be persistent. Do 5 minutes. Stop. Then try again later. Keep at it. Slowly, you will be able to increase the time you spend during each session.

You absolutely CAN do this. One day at a time - even one minute at a time. Don't look at how far you have to go - only how successful you can be today. It doesn't matter how long it takes, only that today is as good or better than yesterday

Start with arm exercises--they count too! I have read wonderful things about the arm bicycles. Also, get your nutrition cleaned up ASAP. I would encourage you to find some whole foods you love that allow you to stay in your target calorie range. You don't have to be hungry and you do not have to be in pain! There are lots of ways to lick this thing. We are all here to help you and support you.

Default Hi**First time here~

I'm so happy I found this forum. I have a 9 month old baby and would like to lose weight. I have 5 children that I care for and have always breast fed. With the birth of the last child I have found it difficult to lsoe the weight. Usually I lose weight easily and get back down to about 120 to 128 pounds. However after I gave birth to the baby before this one , I could ony get down to 147lbs and now I am very uncomfortable with my weight. I have been walking every other day. But I think I need to step it up, but my time is so, so, so very EXTREMELY limited!!!

That is my main problem TIME!!! Trying to work around my husbands schedule and the kids schedule...so hopefully I will get some ideas from this forum

Thanks!

Hi and welcome!

When I started, I was 340+ pounds, and in the beginning I opted to dive into a juice feast, which meant I drank juice I made for a month. That might seem drastic, but it was something I needed and the experience was not only a physical commitment, but also emotional and mental. I only did a month as I felt I was ready to get off of it when I couldn't stand the green juices lol. YUCK! haha. I lost about 25-30 pounds and got a lot of my strength back and after that point I did continue to loose, though struggled here and there. So, my zen experience, which is what I needed at the time, jump started me.

Anyhow, I barely exercised, in fact I think I could do like 3-5 minutes here and there. It wasn't a priority and I think in most cases exercise in the beginning isn't that high on the list, not until you have gotten down in your weight. Not saying that you shouldn't exercise, but the food and diet changes are more important in my opinion. My back during that time hurt so bad I would literally sit and cry at my desk while I tried to get some work done. It was so painful, upper back, and I read that is because I was just now starting to use my poor muscles again. The pain lasted for two weeks and I slowly started to build up my back muscles, but not by doing much, just being getting up and walking around mostly.

After my juice feast, that is when I started doing more and I still struggle with exercise to this day, but I can go for longer walks and longer periods of time with aerobics. I know I can and push myself, but starting out I just wanted to get me "moving" and that didn't take much. I would be exhausted after a 10 minute walk and have to puff and suffer on the way home.

One suggestion is to look at those portable bikes, not the big ones that cost a lot, I'm talking about the mini ones that are like $30 bucks. You can sit down anywhere and even use it for your arms if you choose to. You are not putting all of your weight on you or the bike, so you can pedal a bit here and there and I bet you could even add small weights to do your arms or heck just move your arms. It might be something you can do while you're in this moment, meaning not able to move a lot.

The other thing is to get up and do small bursts of walking. Not much, even a minute up and about can really benefit you. Don't push it right now, focus on the food and diet and slowly you'll start to see a difference. When your body is ready it will want more and then perhaps you could look into something like swimming or other types of exercise.

I personally would love swimming. I'm very tempted to try it.
