Default Hi, how do I get started...

I have been over weight most of my life, I have always hated the fact, but now it is hitting me hard. I am 5'-2'' and weigh 225 lbs. I want to work at getting down to at least 150lbs. I work early from 6am to 230 pm then have kids to take care of and of course fix dinner and yada yada yada... so I am trying to figure out how to get something started for me.. How do you all do it. Can anyone give me any ideas..?
Thanks
PS it is uplifting to read all your stories.. thanks for sharing

I'm trying to get my head right about loosing 20 lbs. I hope this site will help keep me grounded and give me ideas to take of the weight I've been carrying for 15 years since the birth of my son. Any help is so appreciated! God Bless all who are trying as I know how difficult it can be.

Planning meals is key - I only have one child, but neither he nor my husband need to diet at all. I do. So I plan meals carefully, so they are eating healthy foods, but it's easy for me to eliminate items I don't need or warm something else up, or serve the meat over greens as a salad, or something!

With getting up that early, I'd always prep breakfast, lunch, and snacks the evening before; that way there aren't any excuses for not eating healthy foods. If you tend to be running crazy in the mornings, make sure breakfast is something you can nuke for a minute and eat in the car. (I frequently eat breakfast at my desk at work - not a morning person).

Exercise could be your biggest challenge. I do videos, and get up an hour early to do them. But with your hours? Yikes!

Maybe you could do them and have the kids work out along? Or have kids do homework while you workout, and that is absolutely "mama time" - do not bother unless death is imminent? I don't know how old they are, but get creative. My little one started working out with me when he was about 3.

Good luck!

Thank you for the welcome... I dont have an exercise program yet, thats one thing I am trying to figure into my life.. My daughters are 17 and 14, and they of course are doing tons of things, so i am running here and running there.. so I just need to figure a way to revamp things in my life to help me out..

Welcome!

The first thing to do is buy a notebook.

Then, just start recording what you eat when you eat it. You are gathering information about how you eat and when and why. You will also want to block out a chunk of time on the weekend--or whenever, to enter the info you have into something like the daily plate or fitday to get an idea of how many calories you are eating.

Then, you'll have some info about how and where to cut. You can do this slowly and gradually--so as not to overwhelm--or you can do it quickly--but you may confront hunger issues and stuff that may stress you in your busy, busy life.

This weight loss thing--to be successful--really has to be for life--and not something you do by a particular date or event. It's a process and it takes the time that it takes.

Start reading up on different diet plans, too. Make sure you choose a plan that is as flexible as possible and is built around whole foods--and lets you get dinner in under 1/2 an hour--made with food everyone can eat!

You CAN do this!
