Guys thanks a lot, great reading your messages of support

Thinking of cutting down a lot of rubbish and exercising more - I've recently had an arthroscopy, I think thats how you spell it, and start physio on it next Friday, hopefully swimming within 2 weeks, that should also help.

I see a lot of you have a 'goal' ticker type thing. That may be of great use, and a calorie counter as noted above - Am I right in thinking (on the whole) that if you take in less calories than your average daily allowance - say 2500? Then you should lose some?

I'm a rookie!

Thanks again

Yep, calories counting is a great and healthy way to do it.
Further down you'll see a calorie counters section with a wealth of info. Look forward to seeing you around!

Hey there B,
Welcome to 3FC. You can get your weight ticker after you hang around awhile and post a bit. You'll see the signature option appear under your user CP over on the left top of the page after about 20 or so days. In the mean time, work to eliminate or drastically reduce fat, white flour, and sugar and you won't go far wrong. Eat more complex carbos (pulses, brown rice, whole grain bread) and on average your plate should be 1/2 full of veggies, 1/4 lean protein, and 1/4 complex carbs. Drink a TON of water. And start your exercise by just walking for an hour or so...stride briskly along, pumping your arms. Work up to more strenuous exercise slowly. Good luck...this is a fantastic place. They managed to talk me off the Snickers ledge yesterday!

You probably don`t even need to cut that drastically at first to lose weight. You may want to cut a bit by looking at/reducing in-between-meals snacking and calories in beverages. You may then want to improve your three meals a day and then, as you get lighter and fitter, slowly incorporate excercise.

If you are a "beginner" and feel your diet is poor to start with, doing it in stages may be less daunting and easier to achieve.

What I can recommend is a food diary, on paper or online, e.g. www.fitday.com, which is an excellent program which logs your calorie and nutrient intake.
