Hi, my name's Aaliyah (or Leah) and I'm a 28 yr old divorced mom of three living in the DC Metro area. I was doing a search for fat smash recipes and came across a posting here and decided to sign up. I started the fat smash diet (again) on March 31st. Along with exercising every day, I've gone from 175 to 169 since then. My goal is 120-125 (I'm 5'0'') by the end of the summer.
I'm always so motivated at the beginning but I always lose it somewhere along the way. I was hoping checking in and reading around here might help me if and when I ever reach a low point. I've actually told many of my friends and family that I'm trying to lose weight this time. Usually I'd keep to myself so when I quit I didn't have to answer to anyone. I'd like to stick to it this time! I'm so tired of complaining about the things I want to change.
Good luck to everyone and I look forward to going through this journey with you all!
Telling friends and family can be risky business. Suddenly everyone becomes the food police or a dieting expert. We put enough pressure on ourselves without that kind of input! But it is important to have accountability. Even though we do have to face up to ourselves (first and foremost), having someone on our side is good too.
We're here any time. You can check back for encouragement. You can ask questions.
Thanks so much! Yeah, I know everyone will have their opinion on what to eat/not to eat and I've gotten a little taste of that in the past week. It's easy for me to quit...I've done it a lot in the past. It's good to find a place like this where there are lots of people going through the same thing.
Hi Leah, welcome! Yes, this is a great place for motivation and encouragement! The more you get involved, the more likely you will be to stick with it. The great part is that everyone here knows exactly what you're going through! We've all faced those low spots when we just didn't want to push on, so we can help you through it! There are a lot of great challenges under "Chicks up for a Challenge" that can help keep your motivation high. If any of them look good to you, just jump right in! Good luck!
Welcome to 3FC! Surf around and settle in! We have subforums based on age, eating plan, exercise & more! I'm glad you're here!
Remember we have indirect control over the scale, so control what you can and I know you'll be feeling great by August, even if the scale isn't exactly where you want it!
thank you, thank you. i'm still looking around and trying to get a feel for everything but i do see there is a wealth of information. i'll definitely be taking advantage of it. thanks!

Yup, I think you touched a good point there... I don't know how to explain that, but as I already have myself checking what I'm doing, I feel it's just an added stress to have someone else point out every little bit and choice I make... I tend to take it badly, as a criticism, as if what I'm doing is never enough... so I prefer not to have someone in my everyday life check on me during every meal, gym session, or whatever... OTOH, I feel alone if I have really no one to talk to, to vent, discuss, give advice... so a virtual community like this one feels very good.
I just joined here, but I have experience from another message board which I visit regularly - we call each other a virtual family, and I've had (and hopefully given) great support in a lot of difficult situations in my life... it's a great feeling knowing that you can talk to someone, and sometimes not having to see them face to face, makes it even easier to share stuff, not feeling "judged".... I don't know if this makes sense....
It makes a lot of sense. The great part about this site is that you don't tend to feel things like judgment, scrutiny, jealousy, or pettiness, as you might at home or in the workplace. Everyone here is basically in the same boat, so we understand. It's a very supportive environment.
