Default Hello from a uni student trying to shape up

Hi everyone.

I've found my way here in hopes of finding some support and motivation in my attempt to get fit.

As the title says I'm a university student. I'm turning 19 in a couple weeks, but I've been overweight my whole life. My weight has been a constant struggle, and the reasonably sedentary lifestyle that is a result of constant papers and sheer laziness is not helping at all.

Some things I know about my own issues with weight loss:

My family has a history of being over weight, I don't blame this for my own weight issues, but it is a contributing factor. In my family food=love.

I'm a stress eater. I'm also a stresser. These two factors make for a bad combo because when I stress I eat things like chocolate and cookies, and I'm often stressed.

I have a fear of losing weight. I don't know how many others have struggled with this, but I've finally realized that one of my problems is that I'm scared of weight loss. I've been the fat kid my whole life, it has become a part of my identity, and I'm scared of losing myself when I lose weight.

I'm sorry for the long introduction, but I hope that by sharing my own issues I can find some solutions, and maybe find others with whom I can share experiences.

Hi Arcana! Welcome to 3FC!

Congrats on your loss so far! Sounds like you have put a lot of thought into the mental part of this weight loss business, which is great!

We have a 20 something forum full of college students. What are you studying?

I'm glad you're here and I look forward to getting to know you better.

Hi Arcana,
I'm a university student as well. I graduate in may. How about you?
Losing weight while in college is the hardest thing isn't it?
Just keep visiting the forum. It helps me to check in daily. It keeps me on plan.
And there are plenty of people here who have the same issues.
Everyone is very supportive and we can help with anything you ask.
Good luck.

Hey Aracana,

Hope all is well. I just joined as too! 23 going on 24 and I've been overweight all my life. The smallest pair of jeans I wore (past the age of 13) were a size 11. I am now around a size 16/18/20 (it varies) and I would die to get back into a size 11, even though that's not the smallest. You know? :P Heh.

I have fears of personality change when I lose weight. I think I'd act like a kid who's just turned 21. It's scary. I've never lost large amounts of weight but I imagine that once the weight sheds off not only do our bodies change but so do our personalities. Like a new person emerges. Out comes the confidence. Just my own thoughts on it. I really have no idea what it's like. But I'm sure it can't be too awful.

Don't worry about long introductions. The more information the better. Providing I don't have to grab a dictionary. haha

What kind of diet/exercise are you doing? I'm actually detoxing. I know you can't really detox forever BUT I figured it's a good weigh to get rid of all the toxic foods my bodies been consuming. I have no idea what route I'll go in the future. Probably just watch my calorie intake. As for exercise, I usually take a 30 minute walk and do abdominal exercises for about 30 minutes.

Howdy! I'm also a college student trying to make a healthy lifestyle for myself, and it seems we have a lot of the same issues. I'm a stress eater too, so don't think you are the lone ranger on that one! I gained 10 lbs during finals alone this semester . But, with peserverance and some humor its coming back off.I think its great to meet yuo and I hope that you have great success with this!

Thank you all It seems like everyone here is really nice and very supportive of each other.

I'm studying English and Drama, and this is actually only my first year, so I'm living in rez, which is making eating well difficult because I have no way to cook, I only have a cafeteria to rely on. I'm trying to eat more vegetables and fruits rather than going straight for the junkier food when the entree doesn't look appetizing.

Exercise wise I'm going to swim a couple times a week, and I'm going to the gym on campus a couple times a week as well. The problem is I'm so bad at continuing an exercise plan, I've tried before. I am hoping joining 3FC and checking in daily, or every couple days will help me to keep myself on track.

Thank you all again for the great welcome, and good luck on your goals!
