A sloppy 17-

not only is that my screenname, but that's my actual age. i'm seventeen, overweight, extremely depressed, and i need support. I have lost 45 lbs so far, but i need more. I am afraid of getting diabetes because it runs in the family, and though my mom has comforted me with the fact that i hav lost so much weight and plenty of tests have come back negative, i just want to live a healthier life and prove it to myself, my friends, and my family how strong i really am because we are all losing belief in me.

So as i type and cry, i am asking for all the recipes, tips, and excerises from all of my fellow fatties. Please help, because i know i'm better than what i see every morning.

Wow! You are already ahead of the game. You have come such a long way. As far as tips, sounds like you have it down pretty good. What plan are you following and do you exercise right now?

My favorite tip is to still allow yourself your favorite foods, but with a different spin on them. This website is great for that. If you want to start a thread with "I need help with pizza." You will get all sorts of advice on low-fat pizza recipes or everyone's favorite places to get a low-fat pizza. It's great. When I start getting bored with food, I just get more ideas from here.

If your tests are positive, it sounds like you don't need to stress about diabetes at this point in the game. You are young. But if you are losing weight with a healthy diet, you are probably fine. Stress, for me, doesn't help when I am trying to lose weight.

Maybe try a different sport or activity, like Yoga or Pilates. If you are uncomfortable with that, maybe a new workout DVD. I love city league softball. I am on about four teams and play four to five times a week. It just really keeps me in check, and our games are late, so I just get in a late workout without it ever feeling like a workout. I also like to walk at the school track. That is how I started to lose weight.

45 lbs WOWEEEE thats really AWESOME, YOU ROCK! Kudo's to you for saying you want to live healthy and eat healthy WTG and Kudo's to your Mom for her support. You sound like a very smart young lady.
