Hi from Ontario
I'm 27, and recently moved out of my parents' place into my own apartment. Almost immediately, I've noticed a definite improvement in my eating habits, mainly because I just don't purchase junk food. While I love my parents and am glad for their support while I was in school, I'm glad to be out of a house where sweets, chips and high-fat meals were an every day norm.
I've been following a restrictive diet for the past 6 months, with a focus on reducing my sugar intake and increasing the whole grains and vegetables in my daily repetoire of food. My recent diagnosis of PCOS means I'm also on metformin to reduce my insulin and testosterone levels, and also means that I have added difficulty losing weight because of my insulin resistance.
At my heaviest (November 2007) I weighed in at 244. Since then, I've lost 23 pounds to reach 221 (my lowest weight since 1995). I now fluctuate between 221 and 225, and want to kick-start my weight loss again and get off this plateau I've been on for about 2 months. I'm not in it to be skinny, as I'm genetically predisposed to carry weight in my hips and thighs. What I am aiming to do is to become healthier and reduce my PCOS symptoms by maintaining a healthy weight.
