Hi! I'm new here, but struggling with my weight definitely isn't new..
I'm 16 and a half, and around 200 pounds now, or a size 15, and ending my 10th year of schooling, so Junior year will start August 25th.
I suppose I've been struggling with my weight since the 5th grade, when I entered a bad time in my life, where I just stopped all my play-time outside and.. well, ate in front of a TV. Or ate when I was bored at 4 AM. Now at 10th grade and going into 11th, I wanted to slim down to a size 7-9 for my Junior prom in almost exactly one year from now! Though I'm hoping to get down a few sizes before August 25th for my start of the year.
Call me ignorant or naive, but I really am not sure where to start. I've been counting calories for about 3 weeks, consuming around 1600 a day, but I've not been exercising or anything at all. The soda has been cut to one a day (With dinner usually) and my water intake as almost doubled, and I've always been an avid water drinker. I've never believed in the fad diets, so I've never really followed them. On the other hand, without some sort of direction, I still eat all the fattening foods, just less amounts. I've always hated veggies, and I'm not a big fan of fruit either (Though I don't mind a V8 Fusion.), so I never really get too much of that. Unfortunately, my parents are big on fast food and I feel like I can't get out of that.
I suppose I'm really looking for motivation. After coming home from school each day, I always feel too tired to do anything, and I wanted that to change! I'm tired of looking in the mirror and seeing a 39inch waist and 48 inch hips staring back at me. I'm also here to look for direction during the summer, else I'll do nothing but slack off and eat. I've always told myself 'Yeah, I'll do it', and then look back a year later and wonder what happened.
Welcome and good luck. You have made a good start. I would stop the soda, though. Try to get some exercise ? Do you swim ? Ride a bike ? Walk as much as you can. Avoid fried foods. You can do it.
You sound like you're off to a great start..I looked up and according to BMR you should be able to eat about 1800 calories a day (at most) and still lose weight. Exercise will make the process a little faster to as has already been suggested.
I'm wishing you all of the best! And I'm sorry about fast food being tempting..maybe you could talk to your family and ask for their support?
I actually did talk to my mum about it, and she was overjoyed about it, so hopefully there's a lot less fast food in the future. My dad (Whom I have a second house to) didn't seem happy, but he can buy the fast food and well, I'll just stick to my noodles.
Can't wait to start seeing the results, this definitely seems like a great community!
As for exercising, we got a pool today actually, so that'll help, and my mum's going to buy me a new bike, as mine has been out of order for quite some time. My sister wants to get in on it (she's the same as me, only she's about 10 years older with the same schedule for her work as my school), so it looks like I might just have a partner through it.
Well it sounds like you have great support! As for you dad... if he doesn't live with you it mightn't be such a huge problem. Best of luck hun I really hope you do it! Btw, congrats on your first 5
Woot! You are off to a very good start. I hated vegetables too when I first started, but they began to taste a lot better after I stopped eating junk all the time.
First, you're off to a great start realizing, at your age, that you need to make some changes. Can you find ways to add some exercise? Do you have a dog you could take for a walk? Have you told your parents about your goals and asked them to support you?
