Default Hi I'm new

Well I don't really know what to say. I'm Kelly and need to lose weight. I've been saying that for the past 10 years now

I have tried most diets going, spent money on miracle tablets and have hundreds of pounds worth of exercise equipment

I feel like I'm stuck in the same stupid cycle of being depressed because of my weight then over eating to feel better. Or binging if I mess up thinking "whats the point"

I was 28 on Monday and sometimes feel like I have wasted my 20's being paranoid and ashamed of my weight and I want to change that. I don't want my children being embarrassed of me and I want to leave the house without feeling like people are looking at me.

I have 74lbs to lose and hopefully this time I will be able to make the changes that I need for the rest of my life.

Diets don't work. Tablets are a waste of money. Exercise equipment doesn't help if we don't use it.

That's the sum of it!

So. Instead of planning out a diet. How about changing your life for good? You could start anywhere with this. It could be drinking more water, or writing down what you eat, or even taking a ten minute walk. Make small changes, and do them long enough that they become good habits. That's all we're doing here. We might all have different plans, but one step at a time, moving forward.

You're going to have to accept that you aren't going to be perfect, either. Even after deciding to make changes, slip-ups, mistakes, poor choices... they happen! We must continue to move forward regardless!

You can do this. Tell us. What's your next step? We'd love to help.

Best of success!

Hi Kelly! You just took a step in the right direction! Welcome to the boards!

Any idea yet on what plan you are going to go for? Have a look around at what others are doing - maybe we can help you find your way?

And not hopefully this time, just THIS TIME YOU WILL MAKE THE CHANGES Whatever it takes, we are all here for the same reason, to give and get support!

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I'm not sure about which plan to do. I recently lost 2 stone on the GI diet. Mostly I just want to eat healthily which in theory I should know how. I still cook the meals from the diet for the family but because I dont have time to make the same meal twice with measuring things I've ordered a diet plate so that i know what my portions should be. I drink 2 litres of water a day.

I know I can lose weight I just need to overcome the emotional aspect of binging when I start self loathing.

I've looked around the forums and it gives me confidence knowing that theres places to post where people in the same situation offer support

hi Kelly - it sounds like you have a great plan (not "diet") and really understand how your body works.

I understand about the effects of not liking your body; I have struggled with this too, off and on. It helps me to remind myself of the things I honestly LIKE about myself (I have great hair, if I say so myself; I just got a major promotion at work; etc etc), and remind myself that I'm working on the things I don't like.

So,instead of looking in the mirror and thinking "I look -- insert some fat-cow comment here" I say to myself, every morning, something like "I am a person who is making healthy choices!" Like so many things, that self-talk is a HABIT we can cultivate. I mean, I want to be healthier and hottier b/c I LIKE myself -- no, I LOVE myself -- and I want to be around and fabulous for a long time, right?

I'm sure you have matured and grown and had some good experiences during that "wasted" time, and you have many good, healthier decades to look forward to! Welcome to the site, and keep us posted on how you're doing.

take care of yourself,
anita

Kelly, did you happen to catch Paul McKenna's "I will make you thin" series that was on skyone? It may seem silly but he's got some techniques that can help with the cravings/binging, it could be worth looking into. (I have it downloaded, if you didn't see it, or would like a copy PM me and I will send it to you!! Can't hurt, right?)
