Smile Hello all

I'm new to this forum and am glad to be part of this community I came across this website while researching Leg Magic and found some good info posted by members. Thanks

Little about me: I've been struggling with weight issues almost all my life but last 2-3 years have been the worst of my overweight life. I've never been this overweight ever. It seems I look at food and I gain a pound. I enjoy cooking and of course love food which I guess are my worst enemies. I've recently started having right knee cartilage problem. This sort of was the wake up call for me. I'm going through physical therapy to strengthen my knee muscles. The physical therapist told me to only do very low intensity exercises for the time being till my knee gets better, which unfortunately does not help when I'm trying to lose weight. I'm however, doing treadmill (just walking) and some strength training at home. Although I'm not much of an exerciser...again doesn't help when I'm trying to lose weight.

I've lost only about 4 lbs in little over 2 weeks and the journey seems long and endless Trying to lose all that weight just seems such an impossible task right now. But I'm glad I found you guys cuz it seems like a fun place to be.

Hey pintobean - that is GREAT weight loss so far...2 lbs per week is considered to be at the high end of a "healthy" rate - so go you! You rock! The weight will come off (slowly but surely). Sometimes it helps to set minigoals, because looking at the total number you want to lose can be overwhelming.

You sound so much like me - knee issues, love of cooking. I have to tell you...it is all surmountable. I cook all the time, delicious meals that I absolutely love, full of produce to keep the calories low, but also full of the flavors I am so fond of. I don't believe in deprivation, just creativity to get the flavors you want in a lower-calorie form.

Walking is great exercise if you have knee issues...you also might try an exercise bike, or swimming...both have low joint impact. Ask your physical therapist for a routine you can do to burn calories without stressing your knee - they are great at coming up with a plan.

Other than that, just stick around and jump in. I can't wait to get to know you better - this is a great place for information and support.

Welcome pintobean!
Losing 4 pounds in 2-3 weeks is great. Congratulations.
It is pretty impossible when you think about trying to lose 80 pounds. So don't think about it like that!
Make small goals that you can reach and celebrate, maybe 5 or 10 pounds at a time. You CAN reach a 5 pound goal. You CAN reach a 10 pound goal. So focus on that, and when you reach it then celebrate with a manicure, new pair of jeans, or new workout DVD, and set another goal! It really does work!
Anyway, I hope you keep posting to let us know how you're doing.
Beth

Thank you all for responding and the encouraging words. It helps a lot. I am trying to take one day at a time. Although it is hard especially when I am not the most patient person...blame it on being an Aries

You guys are absolutely right I do need to set small goals so that I know I can achieve them and not feel depressed. And yes I do like the idea of rewarding myself for achieving my goal Thanks

BTW we did go to Bed Bath and Beyond last night and bought the Leg Magic using their 20% coupon. I haven't used it yet but we watched the DVD last night...seemed like a good workout for the lower body. I'll try and see how my knees take it tonight and keep you all posted.
