Unhappy New to Site

Hello everyone. I discovered this site months ago and would occasionally come and view the postings. I finally decided to sign up. I was diagnosed with PCOS and Insulin Resistance May 2007. I have really been depressed as I really feel that my doctors have left me hanging. If it wasn't for this forum I would not have discovered that I should see an endocrinologist.

My Gyno basically gave me a prescription for Metformin, birth control to regulate my cycle and Lexapro for depression and that was it ...oh and she told me to exercise. Well little did she know that I was a fitness fanatic and the weight gain was my biggest concern and was the reason that led me to the doctors office in the first place. I have always maintained a healthy eating program as I was training for a fitness competition.

Since May I have not lost any weight and I have remained steady at 183 on my 5'4 frame this frame that was used to 150lbs.

Just last week I was diagnosed with arthritis in both of my knees so my days of bike riding and other aerobic activity are limited. The depression has revisited me since this diagnoses and now I am finally deciding to reach out to someone...anyone.

Thanks for reading my post.

Linda

Hi LINDA . . . From another Linda . . .

This is a wonderful place for lots and lots of support as you wander the long winding road to better health and fitness. Hope you will find it beneficial, too.

Unfortunately, you are not the only PCOS/Insulin Resistance member to mention feeling like you've been left high and dry by your doctor. I'm a Type II Diabetic and there is lots of specialized medical support out there for diabetics. I honestly do not know if the mechanisms are as well in place for your problems. IMHO, I think you should discuss a referral to a dietician as well as one to an Endocrinologist.

We do have an active PCOS forum on the go in the Dieting with Obstacles section of 3FC and I'm sure you will find lots of understanding members over there.

Here is a link . . . http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=14

Cheer up, Chickie . . . help is as close as your mouse-button. Hope we'll be seeing you around the site a lot more often now that you've found us . . .
