Default new on site - excited about support

hello everyone. my name is trish and i have been looking for a cool site for support. I don't feel I can do this alone. I am now at my highest weight which is 200.6 lbs. and i am only 5 2" tall. I went through a break up and moved from California to a the country and I currently don't have access to a gym, so I was in my apartment all winter long. I have gained 20 pounds in the last year. My apartment is extremely small, not much room for exercise other than some floor exercises in the kitchen for which I have been putting off. I do walk quite a bit, however and eat fairly healthy, but struggle in the evening with eating.
I look forward to supporting you too! I have lots of ideas as I have lost weight before. I am looking for a diet buddy.

my goal is to eventually get into a green bikini. I have not worn a bikini since high school and am now 38 years old. But i believe it is possible. another goal of mine is to eventually be able to jog again, or run. I have smoked since the age of 16 and want to quit after losing some pounds. has anyone else here struggled with smoking and weight issues? I'd love to learn about it.

I also take medication, so I feel I have so much stacked against me.

hope to get some informative replies and encouragement.

Welcome Trish! You've found a cool place to hang that's for sure!

Where are you in Illinois? I'm from the Chicago suburbs originally.

I quit smoking a few years ago - (well, I still occasionally have a cigar when I am out at the pub!) - but I didn't have any noticeable weight gain.

My advice is one health hurdle at a time. I also found hypnosis very beneficial in quittiing smoking.

Good luck!

Mel

Welcome Trish! I am new to 3FC as well. I just joined on Friday and have a considerable amount of weight to lose. I actually need to buy a scale but my best guess of my weight is around 210 or so, and my goal weight is also 140. I am a smoker and I really want to quit, but I think Mel's idea of one hurdle at a time is correct. In my opinion, If I try to change my diet, start exercising and quit smoking all at once, I'm going to set myself up for failure. I'm starting out by changing my diet... today is day 3 of eating healthy. So far, so good....

What I really need to do is to start exercising. I remember how good I would feel after working out, it's just so hard to get motivated.

I also struggle with eating at night. I've been successful in the past by not being too strict, and allowing myself one small treat in the evening such as a low fat ice cream sandwich or strawberries with lite whipped topping. If I totally deprive myself at night, I'm more prone to snap and go on a food rampage through my fridge

I'll be your diet buddy if you want. It would be nice to have someone to talk to and to complain to and to share success with.

Talk soon,

MJ

If anyone else see's this post please reply to "cutejeans" in introduction. I am starting a blog today. I will have up the link, here at FatChicks under "cutejeans" ... and maybe one also under "greenbikini" for ultra motivation... about beauty and stuff like that. so check in for tips and things. Yes, MJ i would love to be your buddy.

Mel, I live about a couple hours from you. Yeah! I am brand new only barely a year here in Illinois.

I liked green bikini, but i like cute jeans just as much. i can't wait to buy a pair when some of this damn weight is gone. it's been so hard to find things that look good lately

i just found out that there is a gym right in my office park. for some reason, the idea of checking it out is making me feel a little bit intimidated. i keep thinking that i'm too big to go to the gym, and that i want to lose a few pounds first before i'll feel comfortable working out in front of so many people. is that the most backwards thing you've ever heard or what? i want to lose weight before i go to the gym....i swear i have the dumbest thoughts sometimes.

day 3 went well as far as diet goes. now it's time to start exercising. maybe i'll take a walk tonight.

we'll be in bikinis before we know it

Default Hi MJ

hi mj ~ good morning~

congrats on eating healthfully yesterday. I am going to try to keep greenbikini under another blog for my super duper ultimate goal, but not under a username for now. if I can get into a pair of cute jeans eventually i'd be so elated. i have a really cute pair of old jeans in my bureau. they are like a size 10 or 11, I think.

in regards to your dilema, i used to think the same way years ago about losing weight before going to the gym, but once i started going, i began to feel used to it. and believe me, when you begin to feel more confident and lose weight the men will be noticing. that is what happened to me years ago when i was about 26 years old. granted that was 12 years ago and I was still 20 lbs lighter than now when I began working out, but in the beginning no one paid attention to me, (which is okay. believe me, they are all focused on themselves. they are not paying attention to us) then later i lost weight. I did weight training and cardio, and stretching. then I found soon those same guys standing around me one day. I thought yeah, you did not care before! it's interesting.

maybe it's a good idea to begin by going for brisk walks in the early morning and in the evening to get your heart pumping and psych out for it. set a time limit/ a week or two or three. I will be going to the the gym in a two or three weeks, so if you'd like, we can start together? also do some stretching to loosen yourself up for it. You can totally do it mj! don't pressure yourself though if you falter or miss a day, or something. we all have set backs. we just get back going again, and don't give up, turning our fitness and eating goals into new habits.

are you going to start a blog? that will be an easy way for us to keep in touch. I am going to start one now, and then I will come back here and post it on my profile and I will post it here so you can find it. K?

on blogs we can
keep updated on what we eat, what we dream to be, beauty, how we feel, falters, successes, exercise plans, tips, etc. and comment, share eating ideas, stuff ... I am excited about keeping a diet health blog.

Have a wonderful healthful day. Keep the faith.

Good morning Trish!

I wish I could begin to explain to you the amount of clothes I have in my closet that don't fit.... there are a few pairs of designer jeans that I think I should pin up on the wall for motivation.... I would die to fit into them now

It is kinda funny and a bit sad to see how differently people treat you when you lose weight. When I was overweight I felt invisible, and then all of the sudden people were looking at me again....

I'll have to check out that gym nearby some time this week. Starting in a few weeks sounds like a good idea. I at least need to start walking. And my husband reminded me last night that he bought me pilates workout DVDs for Christmas 2 years ago. They've been sitting around collecting dust so I'm going to break them out and put them to use.

I started a blog this morning. It's called Size Double 9 and it's at http://3fatchicks.com/diet-blogs/maia/. Only 1 post so far but I'm excited to keep it going.

Talk soon,

Maia

Default Hi Maia ~

HI Maia~

I am wondering that I liked greenbikini better too, but don't you think that is a little much to imagine right now? I have a girl pic on the fridge who is wearing some sexy green bikini lingerie which is how I got the idea. I think I might go back to greenbikini! But I am already 38 years old. It's just hard to fathom. I'll let you know.

O wow. I have so many cute clothes in my closet too that I cannot fit into anymore. I call them, "my creative clothes" ~ so I have been living in sweat pants and thrasher t-shirts. I think it would be cute to take a photo in a cute pair of my old jeans and a plain white t shirt! Then of course in my old cute clothes. We can do it Maia! One day at a time. I just read in another post, that it is reasonable to lose 2 lbs per week, which is 8 lbs per month, hence almost 30 in three months. By Christmas I'd like to be down to 170. I know that is asking a lot, but if I keep at it, maybe it can happen.

What do you want to be by Christmas? It is the end of August now. That gives us almost 4 months. And what about weighing in? How often do you want to weigh in? Did you get a scale yet? I thought about us weighing in once per week, like every Tuesday, so next Tuesday we will weigh in again. It's up to you though, what ever you are most comfortable with.

Let's not forget to drink lots of water. It will fill us up and is healthy for us and helps us to lose weight! I am laughing right now. So much to do! We can get creative with it. Pilate's sounds great to do. I've never done it. If I could get a DVD player than I could do some light workouts in my kitchen. But I am still hoping to go to the gym in 2 or three weeks. I will only be able to go twice a week though. Let me know how it looks at the local gym.

I did good yesterday, except it was my neighbors birthday and in the later evening I had with him a small piece of chocolate cake that I made, and a real pepsi. I don't usually drink real cokes. So that was a splurge. My stomach hurts because Yesterday morning after walking about 1/2 hour, I did some crunches. I will post about all of this on my blog and about what I ate and stuff. The blogs are on maintenance now so they are not up.

Hope to hear from you soon! Keep going strong ~

So I did really good yesterday.

i don't think i green bikini is too much to imagine at all.... definitely do-able by next summer, even if it takes a year to get into a bikini it would be an awesome goal to achieve.

2 pounds a week is healty, and it's typically the rate at which i've lost weight in the past. that would put me right around 180 by christmas. wow, i can't believe 180 is a whole 30 pounds away.

weighing in once a week is fine with me, and tuesday is fine too. we can post our weigh-ins on our blogs to keep track and to hold ourselves accountable.

i still haven't taken a walk or done my pilates workout. i've just been so tired every day after work, and it's been hard enough dealing with the diet. I need to start exercising this weekend and stop making excuses! good for you for walking and doing crunches. hope your stomach feels better.

chocolate cake.....yum.

talk soon,

maia

Hi Cute Jeans!

Good luck - hope to see you in the threads! I can't afford a gym, never went when I belonged in past years.

Luckily I've discovered that walking is a GREAT way to exercise, especially if you work up gradually to brisk walking.

I've lost 17 lbs. since July 1 and feel so much better! I am actually quite happy with my butt these days, LOL, all the walking has really helped. Now I tackle my tummy

You can do it!

Default hi ladiibbug

hi ladi~ you are in California? where sort of at? I came from Orange County in the end of my living there. I have lived in CA. for my entire life. Really, you like your butt now? I don't like mine. And my tummy is huge. It will take some time for me to get in some sort of shape. My goal is to lose 30 lbs my Christmas for starters. That is my short term goal. I am praying my old boyfriend in Ca. will invite me to come visit. And I'd like to lose the weight i have gained since i have been gone, plus just at least a tiny bit more to feel a little more confident if i see him.

so please put some good vibes in the universe for me. i have a blog now at 'cute jeans' - do you have a blog? if so, what name is it under?

thank you for saying hi.

Hey Cute Jeans!

Your goal of 30 lbs. lost by Christmas sounds doable ... the experts say a 1 or 2 lb. loss per week is a healthy and reasonable goal.

I lived in Ventura for years, but housing prices :shiver: drove me out five years ago. I live in No. California now, near Chico, an hour north of Sacramento.

I've discovered so much helpful info here at 3FC, especially which foods I can enjoy (especially snacks) that are fat free or low fat, so I don't feel deprived and throw up my hands and quit. Inexpensive choices, too -- like 94% FF popcorn. Love the crunch and bit of salt, but without the whopping fat and calories of chips.

Do you have a sweet tooth? I've switched from being a donut-o-holic into snacking on flavored rice cakes. At first I was skeptical (sp?), but you get the crunch, a bit of sweetness and flavor ... most have 35 calories per rice cake Think I'll try graham crackers for treats again.

I don't have a blog. I'm kind of a private person and was not comfortable with a blog that others read. I think www.fitday.com has a place to blog, but it's private. It's the "journal" link. I've typed some there.

Check out www.fitday.com! Free, fun, and quick - you log foods & beverages and the site calculates how many calories & where the cal's come from ... fat/carb/bev/protein. Very educational to see just exactly how many calories some of our fav foods have ... especially the fat calories.

There are lots of groups here - See heading "Support Groups". I'm in Hot and Healthy Challenge Chicks (under Misc. Groups). You'll be welcome in any group, and it's a good way to meet new people and get and give support!

Congrats on your efforts ... the hardest part is getting started!!
