Default Hi Everyone!

After lurking for a few days, I thought I'd dive in and become an active member here. I am thirty-something, and was lectured by my doctor yesterday about how I need to take control of my weight and health. I've always had horrible luck in love; and after my fiance passed away (a little over 2 years ago), I convinced myself that it if I was heavy, men wouldn't be interested in me and I wouldn't have to worry about relationship issues. It made sense to me before, but it seems a little silly typing it now. I haven't quite figured out the best way for me to "take control" yet. I've tried WW, Atkins, SlimFast, Choose to Lose, etc. with differing results.

Anyway, I hope you say "hi," and I'll see you around the boards!

P.S. I added the progress thingy in my signature even though I was embarrassed at first.

Hi HidingTazz -

I'm so sorry to hear about your fiance. Welcome to the boards! Keep looking around, find a spot that feels right, and keep posting. I look forward to hearing more from you and getting to know you better.

Hi Hidingtazz,

I'm sorry about your fiance. Dealing with sadness like that makes your struggle even more difficult, but you've come to the right place for support. I also have a lot of weight to lose and was embarrassed to post my starting weight, but I think we need to focus on where we're going and not dwell on where we started. Hang in there!

Hi Tazz, Welcome to 3FC
I am sorry about your boyfriend, and have delt with gaining weight so I wouldn't be attractive to men. Personally I don't have a solution, because every day is still a struggle for me to stick to this and exercise, I don't use any plan, like WW or slimfast, just count calories and exercise, and it is working slowly. I figure it took me almost 16 yrs to gain this weight, it is going to take time to loose it. If you want this bad enough , you can do it!! . There are great people here, great support groups( I belong to the 100 lb support club), and great inspirations. I think of it this way if these people can do it, why can't I? I know you can do it too!! So good luck and I hope to read more of your posts.

Hidingtazz and Cheryl,

I have a stupid (or naive) question. You both say you put on weight to be less attractive to men-- were you aware that you were doing that or is it something you realized in hindsight? In hindsight, I can see that I might have done that too, but as I was packing on the pounds (in my college years) all I could think of is how being thin would solve any problems I had with men. I guess what was going on in my head was more "I'm fat, therefore I have man trouble" and not "Getting fat will keep men and their associated trouble away from me." Not sure I expressed that well, but I'm curious to see how it was for you.
