Smile New day, new begining and new friends

Greetings to everyone who is taking on the challenge of losing weight. I am excited about joining this form for many reasons. I located it by doing a search on peoples stories about weight loss. I got looking around and read many stories of success and positive thinking. I thought it would be a great site for me to get encouragement and support.

I am 45, married to a wonderful man, and have four children - two are in their 20's and have moved out and a 16 and 15 year old still at home with us. We live in a community of appoximately 5,500 people in Northern British Columbia, Canada. We love to camp, but our summers are rather short, so don't get to do it as often as we would like. Traveling is next on our agenda for pleasure and we have just returned from the beautiful city of San Francisco - we took three of our kids with us and had a great time, they loved it, the oldest (Tisha 23) is planning on returning with her boyfriend.

We were looking at a few pictures from a couple of years ago and can't believe the difference. We both quit smoking, which of course added weight and then I ended up with Breast Cancer and gained weight during the chemo and then laid up in bed a lot because of complications with the reconstruction surgeries, again which didn't help with the weight. I am feeling better now, but both of us are discouraged with our looks and our lack of ability to get motivated and active.

My husband and myself have started a weight loss program. We offically started on May 4th, and our goal is 95 pounds for me 70 pounds for my husband. I have horrible eating habits, I only eat one meal a day and that is supper, where my husband eats three meals a day, but also goes back for seconds during supper. We had already taken a lot of the fat out of our meals and were no longer frying foods and began eating off of smaller plates and using a salad fork to encourage slower eating habits. Although this may have stopped us from gaining more weight, it didn't help us lose any. My doctor says my body is storing fat because of my eating habits and that is why I'm not losing any weight. At the begining of our program I was discouraged because I was sick of eating and drinking so much water, but today I'm in a better frame of mind and starting to relax a little about chewing on a carrot - as of today (May 9) I have lost 7lbs and my husband has lost 6, slow and steady keeps it off - right!

So hears to a new day, new beginings and our minds focused on a healther, active and slimmer future for us and our new friends.

You have definitely come to the right place. The key for many of us is a lifestyle change and not a diet. You need to find what works for you and stick with it. For me that means counting calories, exercise, and eating several small healthy meals all day. I am never hungry so I don't overeat. It actually sounds simple because it has been simple for me. That doesn't mean that every week I lose weight. But when I don't I come here and get great advice. I wish you great success on your weight loss journey. I like to post in the 100 lb. club. Come and visit us.
