Default Hi, I'm new

Hey everyone,

I'm new here, just found this website today. I've been looking for a forum where I can meet people who are also trying to lose weight and are supportive of each other. I have PCOS and Diabetes T2 which makes losing weight very challenging. I hope to make a lot of new friends and learn a lot.

Thanks,
-Miette

Default Welcome!

Hi Miette!

My husband had Type2 Diabetes, so I may have some tips for you on diet and recipes. In general we BOTH try to eat as many low glycemic foods as we can. We have whole-grain EVERYTHING and also use Splenda. Do you have Splenda where you are? Lots of veggies and lots of chicken and turkey and fish are also helpful.

My husband's hardest thing is eating regularly throughout the day. Fortunately his body seems to be used to this because he ALWAYS has eaten that way. I'm TRYING to get him to eat a bit of something every three hours to keep his blood sugar more steady.

Drink water, and increase your fiber with "good carbs" and vegetables.

Getting enough exercise is key. I like walking and can sometimes get him to go with me.

Come back often and post when you want! There are so many supportive people here! There's also a whole section below for you to check out where others with challenges come to post and help one another. Check it out, too!

Wow, thanks Cheryl! I agree that it's really challenging to have Diabetes because you become very overwhelmed with counting carbs and calories and measuring your BS all the time. My fingers look like pin cushions! I posted a little about this in the diabetes place but it's really hard for me to maintain a balance between hypo and hyper... I have to eat regularly and when I have eaten something that makes my sugars sky-rocket, I have to exercise immediately or I get sick. It's tough!
I like that lbs tracker in your sig.. have to find me one of those! LOL. Thanks again.

Hi Miette!

You can make a "ticker" just by going to the blue toolbar and clicking on "User CP". They explain there how to do it!

Have you had diabetes for awhile? My husband's was diagnosed in 2003, but I think he's had it for AT LEAST a couple YEARS before that! He was never a guy to head to a doctor, but now he HAS to go. It took him about two YEARS to get his meds to work well enough that his blood sugar stays in normal range on most days. He's on Avandamet and also takes Cymbalta for the peripheral neuropathy that he has as a result of his diabetes. Diabetes is one nasty disease. I'm glad that they are doing so many new studies on it!

Checking your blood sugar often is key, and also increasing fiber in your diet will help regulate your blood sugar. We have whole grain EVERYTHING! He's also had good results with adding cinnamon to things that he eats. It has helpful properties for regulating blood sugar.

Cheryl,

Thanks for the advice on how to get a ticker... I went out and did just that! LOL.

I was diagnosed in 06 but I've been struggling with my bloodsugars since I was a little kid. I used to get what my mom called, "the sugar blues" all the time... daily, really. Which meant that my blood sugar was far too high. It made me ill. Then, a doctor told my mom to cut back on sugar and I started going hypo all the time. It's really hard to keep my sugars in balance..they are so picky.

Sorry to hear that your DH is also struggling. I didn't know that about cinnamon but I have heard that it helps. Maybe I'll look into that, thanks!

Take care,
-Miette
