Newbie here!

  • Hi everyone,

After lurking off and on for the last year or so, I finally decided to join the fun. I'm Jennifer & for as long as I can remember I have always been on the heavy side (& now I am on the obese side ) I've lost about 19lbs over the past 6 months or so, but I have been at a plateau the last several weeks - losing and gaining back the same pounds over and over again.

I have an almost too supportive hubby (he's trying to support my weight loss efforts by questioning pretty much everything I eat and do). While I know what his intentions are, it is getting quite annoying and I feel myself trying to sabotage myself just to show him.

I'm hoping by actually joining this board, I can get the momentum and support I need to get this weight off so that I can be healthy, see my 2 kiddos grow up, and grow old with my dear hubby.
  • Hi Jennifer!

    Welcome to 3FC!

When you said that you were regaining the same pounds over and over again after having lost them I thought to myself, "Wow! Haven't we ALL done that?!!!" I think it was Erma Bombeck that said that she had lost over 1000 pounds counting all the times she lost and regained!

I have a favorite weight loss book that made a profound impression on me. It is The Thin Commandments Diet by Dr. Stephen Gullo. I will never forget the part where he says to NEVER let one person, one circumstance, one emotion, one feeling EVER make you put a piece of food into your mouth. Put food into your mouth so that you can nourish your body and be the person you were meant to be. That made such a strong impression on me that I have never forgotten it, and I read the book several years ago.

Don't let it happen to YOU, either! Stay strong! YOU CAN DO THIS!

  • Ah the too supportive other half. I know him well. Er mine that is - not yours You may well have to tell him straight like I did. He's been fine ever since and not wanting to kill him several times a day definitely improved my mood too.

Anyway, The support here is fantastic and you can rant and rave and say things you might not in real life.
  • Hi Jennifer. Welcome to 3FC!!
  • Thanks for the welcome! I'm happy to "meet" you all.

I am trying to figure out the best way to approach him about it. I need to figure out some ways for him to show support that would be more helpful since he tends to want to know how to help instead of just being happy when I have accomplished. Oh well. This should be an obstacle I can overcome as long as I speak up.

Amazingly enough (I thought I had heard of them all ), I have never heard of The Thin Commandments. I might have to look it up.
